Celebrate: Salads & Giveaways

You know you may have gained
a little too much weight when...

This week I'm celebrating:
1) I spent most of the summer inside, hiding from the heat in the air-conditioning, and sitting at my laptop.  It resulted in some weight gain... Now that it's cooler, I realize I have to change some things.
2) I'm going out for walks almost every day. I'm buying more vegetables, making salads, and cutting down on bread and sweets.
3) I hope to be able to scratch my chin with my foot soon.

Do you have a special tactic for keeping your weight in check?

I got a Fitbit a few months ago and it's built my endurance to walk more. I'm amazed at the number of steps taken daily. Blessings and enjoy your weekend!!

I know what you mean, Lexa. I too have gained a few pounds I would love to shed! Walking is my favourite exercise and I enjoy yoga. Good luck and enjoy the weekend.

I made a promise to myself last year to lose weight before my wedding - I lost a stone and half by overhauling my diet (more fruit/veg, less bread/chips/sweets/chocolate) and walking daily. It's still a bit of a battle and I'm not at my ideal weight yet, but it helps that both me and my husband are trying to lose weight together - we keep each other on track (most of the time!). Best of luck!!

I have been wanting/trying to lose weight for years. I don't seem to gain much, but I can't seem to lose it, no matter what I do. Maybe my body just wants to be this weight… I just got a standing desk at work,so I'm hoping that might have a positive effect on my size and shape. I can still scratch my chin(s), but there's definitely still work to be done in that area.

Cheers to getting out more! I try to take walks on a regular basis, but I don't go as far or as often as I should. Enjoy your weekend!

You're on the right track. I did those things and switched to standing at my computer and lost almost 20 pounds a few years ago (also due to loss of my husband and my job). I've kept it off by continuing to walk everyday, watching what I eat, and weighing myself daily. Good luck!

Walking is very slimming.

I start watching my calories and portion sizes. I'm usually just eating too much.

Oh my, our one cat is fat but not quite as bad as this laddie/lass. I think a lot about what I need to do to lose weight as I eat some munchies:) actually I want to go back to my hypoglycaemic diet( basically no sugar, starch or caffeine) and I want to walk but the last few days I have been a cripple again so I can't do much.

The Cynical Sailor said...

It's starting to get marginally cooler here in the mornings so I really should start to get out there walking again and shed some of those unwanted pounds. Have a great weekend.

Jackie said...

I've gained, too. :/ Sounds like you're headed in a great direction to ditch the extra pounds! My hubby and I used to walk almost every evening, but haven't for a few weeks. We need to get back to that!

I never gain weight in the summer but this year I did because I spent too much time in the house close to the food and away from the outdoors where the sun would figuratively make me melt. Now with the cooler weather this week, I am up and about with the goal of walking my 10000 steps which had always been easy for me, but has now grown harder.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

That's one fat cat.
Keep up with your walking, eat healthier, and the weight will come off.

Leandra Wallace said...

Haha, poor cat!! I've just decided to trying to commit to going out for a walk three times a week. I definitely need to get off my hinnie. =)

I need the advice when it comes to loosing weight. My sweet tooth is firmly in control at the moment and since sugar increases your appetite, you get lost in a vicious circle of wanting more, more, more. I was able to cut back for ten solid days after seeing an image of myself, thinner, about six years ago. I need to go find that video again.

I eat clean. No junk. No sugar except for fruit and 5 pieces of dark chocolate almonds. High protein and veggies.

Right now, I'm eating to heal a broken arm.

It's supposed to be the other way around, but the heat this year kept me inside a lot too.

Elizabeth Seckman said...

Scratching your chin...still laughing. It could be worse, you could be like me and scratching your chins.

I'm another one of those who has been trying to lose weight for years but hasn't had any luck. I've started walking again, which hopefully will help. Good luck burning those calories!

I thought I was doing well with weight management but I still can't touch my chin with my toes.

Tonja Drecker said...

My special keep the weight down tactic was getting a small farm. After moving here, I lost a good 7 pounds. But no touching my chin with my toes...what a painful thought ;)

messymimi said...

Exercise will help, and if you get to where you can touch your chin with your foot, you will be very flexible to boot!

Cathrina Constantine said...

I need to do something, fast! My problem is my knees, when I walk lately, I'm up all night in pain. And I'm getting to be a lard!

I'm going to take your advice and buy more fruits and vegetables. I love the kitty pic, great chuckle!

Sue Bursztynski said...

I eat healthy food. My breakfast is fresh fruit and a single slice of toast with herbal tea. My meals in general are simple and healthy. I don't eat dessert. No sugar in my tea. Trouble is, I love my chocolate and there's a sweet shop at the station on the way to work... ;-)

Rhonda Albom said...

Love that fat cat. The weather here is quite opposite. Summer is when we get up and get out, winter is when I tend to expand.

GlenR said...

I wish that I could help with the weight issue, but having just consumed a slice of chocolate torte with my morning latte (sugared) from Waitrose I don't feel qualified to give advice. But is sounds like you are heading in the right direction:)

Beverly Stowe McClure said...

Poor kitty. Looks sort of like my Patches, who I've put on a diet.
I eat too many sweets, especially chocolate, and am trying to stop and eat more fruit and veggies. Walking every day is great. I also try to exercise three times a week with stretches, light weights, and such.
You're on the right track. Keep it up.

Annie Neugebauer said...

"I hope to be able to scratch my chin with my foot soon" actually made me laugh out loud! Oh goodness. :) For me, weight is simple: find exercise that's actually enjoyable instead of a chore, and eat whatever I want but not too much of it. Good luck, Lexa. Thanks for the smile today!

I love that cat! I understand the struggle--you've seen my before and after pics. :)

I maintain now by running and an assortment of strength stuff, but it's an ongoing battle.

Good luck with walking and veggies. Walking has an added bonus as well--at least for me--it helps with writing. I find that I can figure out scenes or areas where I'm stuck during long walks. Running works too, but walking is the best for really working through scenes.

I need to fit in more walks each week. Time is the struggle- but I am thinking anything is better than nothing. Wishing you the best of luck with your new plan. :)

Good luck! Sounds like you're already off to a good start with the health/fitness routine you have in place...

L.G. Keltner said...

After I have my baby in November, I'm hoping to get back in shape. Of course, that means it'll be winter here, so we'll likely be buried under tons of snow. Fitness may have to wait until spring. Best of luck with your fitness routine!

Here's to that lovely chin scratch. Please post a video for us. Can't wait to see your success!

Yvonne Ventresca said...

I love eating healthy food, but I don't necessarily like taking the time to prepare it. :) Good luck and keep us posted!

Deanie Humphrys-Dunne said...

You'll see the rewards from your walks soon, Lexa. I think it's a matter of making new habits, something I'm forever working on. z:)

LOLOL
I hear you. My stint on medication back in June caused me to gain weight for the first time in ages. It's beast to get off!
I wish you gentle movement and fitness!

Heather Murphy said...

I gained 20 lbs from steroids going through chemo. Go figure! I have a Fitbit and joined a gym. I am working hard to get in shape and eat well. Hopefully the pounds will come off in the process. Good luck!

I think I'm going to join your hop on Friday.
