Celebrate: Health & Freebies!

Today I'm celebrating:
1)  I recovered from my stomach bug after only a couple of days (and massive meds) -- woohoo!
2)  I received very helpful feedback from CPs in my group and outside the group, too.  My cup runneth over with CP-wisdom!
3)  I have two new ideas for stories! One is for a three-novella trilogy about ghosts and a ghost hunter. The other is for a novel about a dangerous fungus that escapes from a lab and wreaks havoc on a small town (think Resident Evil meets The Bay).  I'm so excited!  I have lots of time to outline while I'm finishing my current novel, Bloodwalker, about a serial killer in a circus.
4)  I got a lot of errands done this week, including renewing my ID, which is normally DMV-like in its glacial slowness but went very smoothly. Yay!

I know most people aren't Horror fans, but if you had to choose, what are your 2 favorite Horror movies?

Lexa: Like the expression, "Spring is busting out all over," so is your Muse!
It's good to hear you're better! Yes!
Errand days can be traumatic :) have a wonderful weekend.

Hurray for good health and new story ideas. It's spring indeed!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. It sounds like your muse has gone into overdrive with lots of exciting ideas to keep you busy. Yay for the start of spring :)

Awesome new son getting better... being sick is never fun. Hmm horror movies... so many to pick from.

Nightmare on Elm Street and 28 Days Later... I have many more I can mention... I do love horror!!!!

Kate Larkindale said...

Glad you're feeling better!

My favorite horror movies are the original, Kubrick version of The Shining and a reply low budget one called You're Next. It has a kick-ass girl as the hero and I love that!

Tanya Miranda said...

Does World War Z count for horror? If so, that would be my pick. I'm not a big zombie genre fan, or horror movie fan, but WWZ was an awesome flick.

When I was younger, I used to lose sleep from the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th movies.

Am so into horror---my fav = the original Night of the Living Dead and a stupid little thing called Blackula!
Have a good weekend.

I don't care much for the horror genre, if it's gory horror, but a thriller horror I can get into nicely. I like a good spook like the next girl, but no slice and dice stuff. That being said, one of my favorites is What Lies Beneath. At the moment, I can't think of a second pick. I welcome anyone sharing their fave thriller/horror titles with me coz I would love to see something new along the line of What Lies Beneath! Thanks for hosting CST. One thing big I'm celebrating this morning is DH got extended at work till mid-April. God continues to answer prayers! :D

When you're healthy, life is good! Getting errands done is a plus. Getting good advice from CP is excellent. And it sounds like you're on a writing roll. Keep it up!!!

I like your fungus story idea! Run with it.
Favorite horror films? Evil Dead II and Aliens. (I know the latter is more science fiction and action, but work with me here...)

Natalie Aguirre said...

So glad you're feeling better. And sounds like you've got some great ideas to be excited about.

Tonja Drecker said...

Yay to knew book ideas! Seriously, that's one of the best moments of all :) And CP wisdom is always good. I just had a nice load myself this last week and could hug the woman. Go get those words!!!!

Melancholy and Menace said...

I'm glad you've recovered. SO much to celebrate here, and I love the sound of your new ghostly writings (just my cup of tea).

It's difficult to choose just two favourite horror films, but off the top of my head I'd say Dracula (all of them) and Frankenstein (with Boris Karloff and including Bride of)...

I also, really love The Woman in Black.

ELAdams said...

Yay for new story ideas! The fungus one sounds fun. :P I don't watch many horror movies, but the first two to come to mind are The Shining and The Woman in Black.

Linda Kay said...

You won't catch me at a horror move, ever since I saw "The Day the Earth Stood Still" as a child. I was mortified. So I avoid them.

Unknown said...

Oh that's wonderful news, Lexa. No more stomach bug! I hate those and am glad you're over it!

It's also great to hear about more plot bunnies!! Sometimes I think they breed faster than rabbits but then there's those times (at least for me) where my muse refuses to show her face again. THis is the current state I am in at the moment. But I think it's a matter of trying to find the time to sit down and actually work it, for me.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and week! It's almost spring! <3

wow you're like the 4th blogger I've stumbled on who's had a stomach bug and I did too all last week...first day I'm feeling semi normal!! so glad you're feeling better!ooh I've never seen a horror film in my life (such a chicken) but I guess I'd say Friday the Thirteenth? (is that horror? lol) since it's a classic!

Unknown said...

Yay for new story ideas! I've been getting overrun with those, myself. Yours sound awesome!

I don't watch much horror, either, but I liked/hated The Orphanage.

I like the fungus idea! Horror+ fungi=awesome

Annie Neugebauer said...

Yay for being well and double yay for new ideas!! Just two favorite horror movies? Well, okay. I'm going to go with The Shining and Wait Until Dark.

Having the stomach flu is a horror itself. I am glad you are better.

When I was about 13 or so, I saw Psycho. That was the end of scary movies or books for me.

Corinna said...

It's great you have so many story ideas! I will get around to writing a novel some day, but for now, I'm happy to get blog posts up. When I was younger, my friends and I would have horror movie nights and sleepovers where we'd watch a ton of horror movies. I've gotten away from them since they're more disturbing to me as I've gotten older; however, I received an email from Rotten Tomatoes today that rated a new horror movie as super fresh. It's called, It Follows, and I'm intrigued by it enough to possibly watch it. Even R.L. Stine mentioned it on Twitter so it's getting a ton of buzz right now.

Birgit said...

Glad you are feeling better and you are just making major headway...must feel great about this. I love the Original film "The Haunting" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" with Gary Oldman. "Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are also up there

My two favorite horror stories?

The Exorcist

Poltergeist

It sounds like your muse is bursting with ideas - which is awesome! I'm glad that your writing is going well and your CPs are super helpful!

Glad to hear your stomach bug is gone! Sounds like your writing is going great! Yay!

I'm not a big horror fan, but the two that are forever ingrained in my brain — Psycho and Salem's Lot. I saw Salem's Lot when I was a lot younger and had to sleep with the lights on for days.

Congratulations on all the new inspirations. Each one sounds exciting.

Beverly Stowe McClure said...

Yay for feeling good again.
And so many great story ideas to work on. Have fun with all of them.
I can't recall any horror movies I liked. Musicals and Tarzan movies (don't laugh) were what I liked.

messymimi said...

Hooray for feeling better and getting stuff done! Do not like horror movies, so no favorites.

Cathy said...

I love Hitchcock movies, especially The Birds and Psycho.

I'm glad to have found "Celebrate the Small Things," however Lexa, I seem to have signed up wrong. Should've put only my website. I'm going to try to remove and do it over, but if I can't remove my blooper, will you please? Thanks!!

Laura Clipson said...

New story ideas are the best! Glad you're feeling better :)

Cathy Keaton said...

Congrats on your new story ideas! Yay!

I don't like horror movies, but I do like the Anna books by Kendare Blake. I'm reading the 2nd book, atm, and being reminded of just how horror-like these books are. Still, it bothers me less than seeing it in film.

Rhonda Albom said...

Sounds like a good week, back to health and new story ideas. As for horror, sorry I just don't do them.

Michelle Wallace said...

I had to laugh at your comment: " ...renewing my ID, which is normally DMV-like in its glacial slowness..."
Horror? Eeeek. Not for me. I avoid it... most of the time...

alexia said...

New ideas are so fun! And being over a stomach bug is definitely awesome.

DMS said...

So glad you are feeling better! Awesome that your CPs gave you such helpful advice and that you have some new ideas brewing.

Two of my favorite horror movies Watcher in the Woods (it is Disney and very old- but it scared me growing up and it still scares me). We reviewed the movie on our blog a while back. Also- The Exorcist has always scared me!

TheCyborgMom said...

Ooooh...new ideas for stories sounds good! Glad to hear that you are feeling better!

New story ideas are awesome! And so is great CP feedback and getting over being sick fast. Sounds like a pretty nice week! :)

Yay for new ideas! I can't wait to read them. And three cheers for overflowing cups. Here's hoping next week is even better.

Glad you're feeling better. My fave horror movies: 'The Tingler', which is as old as me, and 'Erasurehead', from the late 1970s. 'Favourite' is not right word, but they are films that I've never forgotten.

You're on the upswing I see. Good news all around and some super stuff to celebrate.

Great things this week. Glad you're feeling better.

The Exorcist and any Saw movie--those are my favorites.

The Silence of the Lambs and The Exorcist. And I don't generally like horror flicks. These two are exceptional.

Glad you're feeling better!

Lexa, it's good to know you're better even if it's thanks to meds. You sound like you're bursting with creative energy! Go for it.

I'm not a horror fan and was quite amazed that I enjoyed Black Swan (the ballet movie) and to learn it was actually horror. I wondered why she stabbed herself and wallowed in pools of blood. Eeeee!

At the moment, my flash fiction group Write...Edit...Publish is on hiatus due to writing committments, but thanks for the thought.

Denise :-)

Woot woot! That's great on the new trilogy idea. I wish you great success!

I don't watch much horror, but I do like The Grudge, since that's the movie my husband and I watched on our first date.

Heather R. Holden said...

Wow, you have so many awesome things to celebrate. Yay you! Your new story ideas sound like heaps of fun. (Your current novel is especially intriguing. Love the circus setting!) I'm a huge horror fan, but I'm having such a hard time narrowing down two fave movies in the genre. Too many awesome ones to choose from!

LD Masterson said...

I was going to see I don't watch horror films so I had no favorites but I read some of the previous comments and saw Aliens (which I had thought of as dark sci fi) and said, "there's one". I love that movie. Then someone else mentioned Hitchcock and well...sure, anything of his.

I'm not sure if this counts as a horror film but I saw the 50's something version of The Incredible Shrinking Man when I was a kid and I credit the scene with the spider as being the cause of my lifelong arachnophobia.

Mark Murata said...

I'm not a horror fan, but I thought The Strangers, starring Liv Tyler, was unusually good. Thinking of getting away from everyone for a romantic time? Think again.

For fantasy horror, there's always Underworld, starring Kate Beckinsale. It features two star-crossed lovers -- he's a werewolf, she's a vampire.
