SWAY Release, Interview & Snow in Egypt

One of the best book-reviewer bloggers around is Matthew Keith.  He has a new book out, and I'm helping him celebrate its release!

Blurb:
A psychological thriller/horror that explores the inner workings of a man who had some of the worst experiences possible as a child.  Now, as an adult, he is revisiting his childhood demons, trying to put it all together, all the while unaware that that's what he is doing.

Through the re-emergence of a recurring childhood nightmare, he works toward beating back the man representative of a society holding him in check.

Is it real, the product of a doctor who chemically induces his patients into visiting the dream as a means of control, or is it nothing more than the ravings of insanity manifesting itself through a dream?

Author Bio:
I live in Kentucky near Fort Knox with my wife, 2 children, and our dog "Elvis".  Although I have been writing for the better part of a decade, I have only recently begun publishing novels.

"Sway" is my third novel, and is very different from my first two which were the first two in a trilogy, "Watchers of the Night"—a sci-fi fantasy adventure about a young man who can walk the night in his dreams.  He is recruited by an agency run by the United Nations that uses people like him to gather intelligence.  The first book in that trilogy, published in April 2013, won 5th place in the annual critiquemynovel.com writing contest.

My next project, currently underway and due for release in the spring, is the final installment of that trilogy, "The Fall of Astralis".  After finishing the Watchers trilogy, it is my intention to head back into darker fiction and continue to test my boundaries as a writer.

On Friday night, Dec 13th, snow fell in Cairo for the first time in 100 years.

Yes, those tiny things that look like ants in the snow are actually people.

Many Egyptians were delighted with the snow because most haven't seen it before.
But it quickly melted, leaving a flood. Egyptian streets have no gutters or sewer system because with only about 5 rainy days a year, those are generally unnecessary.

The snow didn't reach the Red Sea coast where I live because of the relative warmth of the sea.  Too bad.  I'd have been thrilled.  I used to live in the north east of the US, and I kinda miss a white Christmas...

I never expected to see snow on the Pyramids. Wow!

Sway sounds intriguing. Thanks for the intro to it. As for the snow, wow. I pinned your pyramid snow photo. I am now in the Southern Hemisphere enjoying summer. I don't miss white days, anytime of year :)

Congratulations on your book, Matthew. It sounds interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to revisit my childhood demons, if I had any. Can't recall.
The snow is beautiful, and what a surprise, huh? The weather is strange sometimes.

Ooh, Sway sounds so intense...

Also, snow in Egypt?! Wow! How cool! Sorry to hear it didn't reach your area, though...

I miss snow too, Lexa. A temperate climate is all well and good, but winter just ain't winter without snow. What's the point of the cold if you don't get the pretty?

Natalie Aguirre said...

Congrats to Matthew on his book. Love the pictures of the snow. And it's amazing you only have 5 rain days a year.

Congratulations to Matthew.
Sorry you missed the snow. Bet that was a treat for people who've never seen it. We don't get it often here and I miss it as well.

Congratulations to Matthew!

I saw pictures of snow on the pyramids and the Sphinx on Facebook this weekend. Absolutely stunning. Sorry you didn't get any in your area. :(

We've got plenty here ... Wish I could send you some.

How strange it is to read about a city not having gutters or sewers, and yet if you think about it, completely obvious in the desert :)

I went to University of Arizona, which has a lot of Arab students. One winter we got a rare snowfall and a big crowd of Arab guys were rolling around in the stuff, utterly amazed. It wasn't long before they invented the snowball!

Sway sounds interesting.

I'm not big on snow. It's fun to play in but I don't like how it makes traveling dangerous. I want to make sure my family can get here for the holidays.

I've been seeing a picture of a "confused" camel sitting on snow these last few days, and wonder if you got any snow around your area. I shall share many pictures of white Christmases (even a few frozen ones) just to make you feel better ;-D

I was wondering what you thought of the snow! I'm sorry you didn't get any, but hopefully that means it didn't flood where you live? I love those pictures!

I guess here in the states for the most part we take snow for granted. I think most of the states get a good snow fall at least once a season. I do feel bad though that the greeks are left with a flood. That cannot be good at all.

Great novel premise on Keith's novel. Best of luck to him. And, wow, what a cool pix of the snowy Sphinx!

Wow! Snow!!! Very cool pictures!

And "Sway" sounds intriguing! Best of luck with it, Matthew!

Thanks so much for all the well wishes from everyone!--"Sway" was a tough book to write, but I feel like it is definitely a solid piece of literature. It's the kind of book that'll make you want to stop reading even though you know you can't... not after everything you learn about the main character.

We had snow in Kentucky the last week or so... does that count? :-)

Thanks so much for the posting, Lexa-- you're amazing!

Congratulations to Matthew on the release of his book.
It sounds quite thrilling!

I never thought I'd hear of snow in Egypt. Loving your pictures :)

Snow in Egypt?! What...? =) Loved the pics! And congrats to Matthew on his book! I've never been to Fort Knox, but I've always enjoyed visiting Louisville- and watching the Kentucky Derby! ;)

I love to hear about writers who've been at it for a long time and take the step to publish. Congrats to Matthew. The pictures of Cairo in the snow are fantastic.

Matthew's book sounds interesting and a little frightening.

Snow has been blowing all over the US in the past two weeks, and I think in Europe also. I would never expect to hear that it snowed in Egypt. i am hoping that the heavy snow of December is not an omen of things to come when winter really starts on Saturday.

Maynard Morrissey said...

Well, I live in Austria and we have always tons of snow in November, January & February. However, for whatever reason it always gets a bit warmer in December, and Christmas mostly ends up as kinda 'spring day' :)

Empty Nest Insider said...

Congrats to Matthew! It's amazing that it snowed in Egypt for the first time in 100 years! Sorry that you won't have a white Christmas, but I know that you have lots to celebrate!

Matthew's book sounds awesome. Wow, it is snowing in the strangest places this year - where is that global warming? The pictures are amazing but as you say, it got pretty uncomfortable afterwards. A pity you didn't get to see it. I am in France, but not snowing here. It snowed lightly when I was in Amsterdam. Head for Spain next so probably won't see any snow this trip! Happy Christmas.

Looks like I'm trying to get your comment numbers up, lol. I left a comment on Pat's blog but there is Word Verification and I don't usually bother leaving comments when bloggers have that turned on. I tried twice which is my limit and it still wouldn't accept my comment. Here it is:

Hi Pat. Hi Lexa. I'm a sucker for authentic settings so yours should be right on. I've always loved reading novels set in Egypt, usually about tomb raiders or romance amongst the Pyramids, probably written by authors who have never visited, but they were still great. D

The snow looks beautiful in such a strange place for it! I can imagine how exciting it was for people who had never seen snow before. It is snowing here as I type this, so I am very used to the snow- but that first time thrill of seeing and feeling it must be something. Crazy about the flooding- I had no idea about the lack of sewers. Hopefully the flooding didn't last long!

Sway sounds really interesting. I know I wouldn't want my recurring childhood nightmare to come true! Wishing Matthew the best of luck!

Congrats to Matthew Keith for the new book! And those photos are awesome! Snow on a palm tree is just bizarre

Sounds like a frighteningly well-crafted novel. Best wishes to Matthew with Sway.

Lexa, your new header jumped out at me and had me ooh and aah-ing. VERY PRETTY.

Be well,

Congrats to Matthew!

I saw those pictures on the news of the pyramids covered in snow and wondered if you were getting any. They sure were pretty, but I hate hearing it caused such a mess. We hardly ever get snow here in SC, so when we do, drivers go crazy and have wrecks left and right.

I like psychological thrillers. Congrats to Matthew.

I never thought I'd see snow on the Sphinx or the pyramids.

Annalisa Crawford said...

Congratulations to Matthew.

Snow in Egypt is so beautiful and surreal. It's a shame about the floods that followed though.

Julie Flanders said...

How amazing to see snow on the Pyramids! Wow!
I've seen SWAY around and it looks sooo good. And so scary! Huge congrats to Matthew. I enjoyed your interview over at Pat's place!

Ah! Your banner is so Christmasy! I love it.

You know, I had a dream last night that I woke up to two inches of snow here if Florida. Which will never happen, but it was cool nonetheless. That's amazing--the snow in Egypt.

Here's to Matthews book! I'm betting it's one I'd enjoy.

cleemckenzie said...

I enjoyed reading about Sway and the author. I'll have to look into it. Love the thrillers.

I used to live in LA and when it snowed there once , we were as excited as the Egyptians.

PK HREZO said...

Wow Lexa!!! Can't believe it snowed in Cairo! Amazing stuff. That means there's still hope for me here in FLA. It hasn't snowed in Florida since I was 4.
Wishing you the very best of Christmas, my friend! I'll be in the writing cave for awhile. :)

Bonnee Crawford said...

I'm sure anyone superstitious in Egypt had a bit of a freak-out at the sight of snow on Friday 13th, but that's so cool. I can't imagine snow in Egypt, so that must have been really exciting for a lot of people. Sway sounds really cool and so do Matthew's other books.

DMS said...

I don't know if it wasn't up the other day- or I just didn't notice it- but I love the festive cover photo! So magical! Right now we have a ton of snow here, but they are predicting rain and temps in the 60's this weekend- so I think it will not be a white Christmas here, either.

Wow! Snow in Egypt! Some of the kiddies must have been so excited. Driving in it is a big drawback for mums and dads though. :)
