Celebrate & Change

Sometimes, we think our image could use a change, whether hairstyle or hair color or simply clothes.  But who hasn't made a bad decision or two in that department?

Yes, change can be downright scary.

As you may have noticed, my blog looks different.  When I changed to include 2 sidebars, I just couldn't get the "Purple Eye Vortex" to fit.  I'm sure some will mourn its passing ... or not!  (I know my agent won't. lol)

But change is necessary -- especially for writers -- otherwise how will we grow and improve?  This week I'm celebrating the courage to change.

Have you ever made a hairstyle mistake?  Have you considered re-designing your blog?  And is my animation in the new header taking too long to load?

This post is part of VikLit's blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things. To be part of this blog hop, all you have to do is follow the link and put your name on the Mr.Linky list, and then be sure to post every Friday about something you're grateful  for that week.  It can be about writing or family or school or general life.  This is the funnest and easiest blog hop ever!

It didn't take too long to load for me. I like the new header!
I haven't changed the way mine looks for almost four years, except for adjusting the sidebar elements now and then. The banner is from early last year though, courtesy of the awesome Jeremy!

As a rule, I don't like animated anything on blogs and websites, it's just too 1990's for me. But no, your animation loaded in a snap.

My worst hair decision was when I was 18 and wanted to go red. But for dark brown to go red, it first has to be bleached. But when dark brown hair is bleached it becomes spotty and orange, so then you have to bleach it multiple times. It took years before my hair recovered.

Awesome blog changes. To be honest, I'm not a great one to embrace change, although it often turns out best. Next year will be my year to be forced to have the courage to change jobs. I can do it!

Whoa! I love the new header. Why does it say "Soul Cuter?" I thought your book was "Soul Cutter."

Ha! Made you look. Seriously...the only constant in life is change. And yours is a good one.

I believe change is always good! I'm loving the new look here!

Love the change and your new header but I also dig your purple eye. I don't mind change and you're right it's sometimes necessary. My problem is when I change things too much! lol!

Wow! It is really good. Dragon and dwarves like it very much!

Oh no, no more purple eye! Seriously though new header looks cool and didn't seem to take long to load for me. Change can be scary and strangely liberating at the same time!

mshatch said...

No problem loading on my end and yes, I've made hairstyle mistakes before, some of which required growing out to resolve. Thankfully it's been a while...lol - but sometimes change is necessary and good!

Love your new banner design! And yes, the big hair band guy is scary! Very soon I have to design a new banner for my new adult romance stories under my pen name, Kitsy Clare, and it's already making me nervous. I want it to be really great, you know?

I like your new look, but I also liked your old one. I love/hate change but it happens no matter how I feel about it. New is good and can refresh our surroundings.

I am afraid (that is a new word that has entered my vocabulary, and it is not good) to change my blog. In the beginning I did, but now I find I am comfortable with the way it is (aka, too lazy). However, I do change my header
picture often.

The new header looks nice. I liked your blog's old look too.

I hopped on and went: *gasp* "She has a new header!!!!" I was ready to be all witty and complimentary in the comments, and they you went and pointed it out to EVERYONE. *sigh* I do really like it--though it might look better with a wedge of cheese hidden in the hieroglyphs. ;) Love it.

Be bold. Take chances. Dare.

The blog looks great! I would totally change some things about my blog, but I can't figure out how to do it :)

I love the new look! It's so pretty! I have had numerous bad hairstyles in my time. I was a punk in high school, so pretty much everything from that time was hideous. I remember dyeing my mohawk purple once, and getting called into the vice-principal's office. She told me the color was inappropriate and didn't reflect well on the school or its uniform. So I went home and dyed it black and gold, the school colors. I think she almost had a fit when I went back....

Wowzers, Lexa! Looks fabulous. The header took only about 15 seconds to load for me, but doesn't the speed have to do with the browsers folks use? I wouldn't worry too much over that. Well done, writer sister. :)

Bad hair days... About five years ago, I'd reached the (what I thought) ripe old age of 37 and decided the long hair had to go, so I chopped it all off. The hairdresser had to shave the back of my neck. O_O I kept it that short for about a year, and decided I wasn't all that old and I wanted my long hair back. It's still with me today. ;)

I had a mullet when I was about 14. It was not a good luck, and took ages to grow out :-(

I love your new look here though - although it's missing a photo of your hair mistake!! lol

It loaded right away and I think it looks great. Of course I'm a sucker for most things Egyptian.

Like the new banner. The two columns don't fit on my screen, but it's just a matter of sliding it back and forth to see it all. And, yeah, I like to change things now and then. My banner used to be just the title words until I had a friend add the other stuff with photoshop. :)

Cherie Reich said...

Everything loaded well on my work internet (it's the good internet, though). Love the new look!

Melissa said...

Lot's of people are changing their blogs lately. I like your new stuff, although it did take a bit for your header to load. (Fwiw, I have DSL, but 1 speed setting slower than the fastest. There's supposed to only be a few seconds difference.) *shrugs* If others have trouble, maybe you can find a way to make a still image with both the title and the message.

Heather R. Holden said...

Your new blog layout looks great! And the animated header had no trouble loading on my computer at all. :)

I've re-designed my blog in the past. Before, it had looked completely different from my website, but then I decided to make the two match, and the rest is history!

DMS said...

I think the new blog layout is great! (I also liked the purple eye vortex.) This layout seems to go well with your book. The animation doesn't take too long to load for me. :)

Yes- I have made bad changes in the past (hairstyles)- but lots of good changes too! :) Change is good, even if sometimes it is hard.

Your blog's new look is exquisite. Love it. So professional. No problem with the time animation.
One time I colored my hair and it turned green. The next day at school, my students keep looking at me with weird expressions, but the little darlings said nothing. To explain to them, my story was: I'm supporting the football team whose colors were green and white. :)

I love the new look! But I know what you mean about scary- I changed my blog look a few months ago & at first I couldn't decide if I loved it or hated it. =)

Lexa it looks fabulous! I noticed it right away when I hopped over. Very neat and eye-catching. And the Egyptian theme is original. Nice job!!

And thanks for adding my book to your sidebar. :)

The blog change is pretty amazing! My hair before junior year was pretty awful. After that my bangs decided to work with me, and my hair finally started to look great.

Hey Lexa,

Ah and the change you have made to your blog is fantastic. I should try to change my blog's look.

If a comfort zone becomes an uncomfortable comfort zone, it's time for a change and a challenge.

Your site loaded up just fine. My hairstyle is non-existent these days :)

Holy blog redesign! I love it. I just redesigned my blog recently too. It's fun to change things up now and then. :)

Great job! I love the way you incorporated your book without throwing your cover up everywhere. :)

Magaly Guerrero said...

First, I like the look of your blog. I might mimic it a bit. I've been playing with the idea of two sidebars, but they are both on the right at the moment... it looks kind of crowded. I like the balance of the setting you've set up.

About hair mistakes *sigh* I've made hair disasters! I've done everything from shaving my head (that was kind of a necessity. I was in the military and my hair/helmet interaction was getting on my nerves). But the experiences were all right ;-)

Change is good, even if not pretty at times.

Robin said...

I love the new look to your blog!

I just got a haircut and I like it a lot... even though the stylist cut it shorter than I asked. I wanted just past my shoulders and I got an inch above my shoulders. I am not sure how she confused that... but it will grow!

Bad haircuts... Oh my goodness. When I was in college I wanted something VERY DIFFERENT. I was in that place where I wanted to stand out. Ironic since I wanted nothing more than to fit in during those junior high/high school years. Anyway, I decided the best means of achieving that was having my hair one side of my head go to my shoulders and be considerably shorter on the other side. It was hideous. I ended up having my mom spiral perm my hair so that it wasn't so obvious. If I were in college now, and feeling that way, I would probably get a red or purple streak instead.

Change are scary but healthy to some extent. Living your life according to a routine can get exhausting fast enough.

Starting small is good but everybody should welcome some changes in their lifes!

I love the new look! The Egyptian themed header is great! And it loaded right away.
Yes, I had a blog re-design in March.
And I believe that change is inevitable... we have to learn to embrace it.

It's great to shake things up. I recently did that. It's like a whole new me.

Okay, first, that hair/hand picture is freaking me out. Death by hair sounds like something that would happen in a Freddie Krueger movie.

The new header looks great! Loaded up quick for me, too.

I'll miss that big, beautiful purple eyeball. And that picture you found of the woman with the bouffant hair-do is mind altering. I will never be able to un-see that. But I'm not sad because the sour lemon look on her face is priceless!

Awesome new design--it looks great! And I didn't have any trouble loading the page with Chrome.

Hi Lexa. Absolutely stunning new look! No, the animation was mind boggling and didn't take extra time to load on this computer. But the purple's passing is a little saddish.

No problems loading your blog. I love that opening. I should get something like it. I am considering revamping my blog but I don't want to spend the needed time right now. For one thing. I have no idea what it should look like. I admire writers who have spent money on a cool wallpaper. Thanks for your comments.

I like your new look!
I did redesign my blog after I had numerous complaints about the white text on a black background.

As for hairstyles, my mother cut my hair throughout my childhood and into high school. That says it all, doesn't it? I didn't get to visit a hair salon until I went away to college and could transport myself and pay for it myself!

It looks great! Nothing took long to load for me. :) I did once try to dye my hair black and it didn't work. It came out black and orange, but then I dubbed it the tiger look and liked it! Heh.

Great new look! It loaded right away for me. FYI - on my blogroll, your blog had been in the right sidebar. It vanished from there, yet is still connected somehow because Blogger won't let me put it back. So-tada!- I added you to the left sidebar.

wow, I love this new look! The animation works well--at least on my end. :) I'm thinking of doing a blog make-over as well. Yeah, I've done a couple of hair make.overs. It wasn't pretty..lol

Bad hair - would trying to go from blond to brown and ending up green count? (Seriously)

Change? Ack! We don't need no stinkin' change.
Seriously, the only time we STOP changing is when we're dead. So, like birthdays, change beats the alternative.

Great post, Lexa. I liked the new look, and it loaded fine.

I love change. Contrary to a lot of people, is with long time commitment that I have a problem. I don't mean professionally or personally, but I can't stop tweaking furniture, my hair, my blog... My husband thinks I have an addiction. :)

My worst hair decision? I colored my hair bright red when I was about 16. I hated it so much, I tried to change color the very next day, but my father refused to pay for the new coloring, thinking it would teach me a lesson. Instead I went to the mall and begged people (total strangers) for money "to buy a book for school". I had my sister do the same on the other side of the mall. That night I came home with a wine-red new do.

Never underestimate a determined teen, I guess! :)

I like the new look, by the way. Well done!

I generally hate change, but I do dig the new blog look.

For most of my life I've had the exact same hairstyle - all one length about four inches below my shoulder. But just as we were about to hit Y2K, I decided to chop it all off to a spiky look, about 2 inches all over my head. It looked HORRIBLE, but it actually changed my personality. I became more bold and spoke my mind at work and ended up getting a promotion. Although I still grew it back out as fast as I could. :-)
