Celebrate the Small Things: 9/13

It's Friday the 13th! Ooooh!!

Here's all the lucky (and unlucky) things I'm celebrating this week:

1)  Unluckily, I used up my quota of bad luck before the 13th this week when our water pump broke on Tuesday.
2)  Luckily, my hubby's handy and he can fix those types of things, so he hurried home from work early to do it.
3)  Unluckily, he dragged the machine up (grease, mud, dirt and all) and set about fixing it on my newly-vacuumed living room rug.
4)  Luckily, most of it was in working order so he didn't have to buy a whole new machine.
5)  Unluckily, the parts he had to replace were the biggest and most expensive.
6)  Luckily, he got the new parts and succeeded in fixing it after only one day without water.
7)  Unluckily, he decided to put the big, muddy disgusting parts that didn't work in my clean bathroom (since he's incapable of throwing anything away even if it's broken -- perhaps he thinks things will spontaneously repair themselves. Hmm. Hasn't happened yet...).
8)  Luckily, he knows dirt all over the bathroom ticks me off so he tried to clean the parts off.

9)  Unluckily, his attempts somehow went awry, and my bathroom looked like a St. Bernard had rolled in the mud and then shook himself.
10)  After I shooed hubby out of the bathroom, I cleaned the toilet, sink, tub, floor, and walls and didn't kill anyone -- LUCKY FOR HIM!

Do any of you believe in bad luck on Friday the 13th?  Has anything bad ever happened to you on that day?

This post is part of VikLit's blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things. To be part of this blog hop, all you have to do is follow the link and put your name on the Mr.Linky list, and then be sure to post every Friday about something you're grateful  for that week.  It can be about writing or family or school or general life.  This is the funnest and easiest blog hop ever!

I'm not really superstitious...
And you had an equal amount of good and bad luck this week...
Enjoy your weekend!

Trust me, parts don't fix themselves unless it involves a computer. Glad the water pump was fixed quickly even if it was a mess.

I am not superstitious about the number 13, but I have to admit that if something goes wrong at the beginning of any day, I see it as an omen and am on my guard till the day is over. However, like you, I usually find it to be something to laugh at. The funniest stories are about when things don't go as planned.

Many of us can relate to your story, especially #10.

I'm glad it all got sorted out in the end!

Ha! Don't you love that when hubbys help but leave huge messes...my hubby loves to cook, which is fantastic, but he leaves nasty dishes in the sink or says, "Oh, don't worry about those!"...which sounds great, but when they're still there the next morning I have to take care of them anyway. Grrr. :)

Lol! I had a mess in my bathroom like that once when I accidentally flushed the hubby's electric razor and we had to take the toilet up out of the floor. It always feels so good once everything's clean and shiny again!

NAh, I don't worry too much about Friday 13th. Nothing too wrong happened today. We didn't have a breakage like you. At least it got sorted out, however messily :D X

LOL I couldn't help but laugh about the St. Bernard rolling in the mud in your bathroom. I can easily imagine the mess! I know I wouldn't be laughing if I'd been the one who had to clean it up. Glad your husband is still living. :D

Ha! I have a husband who can't throw anything away either. I don't believe the 13th is unlucky. It's lucky! My daughter was born on April 13th.

I don't believe that Friday the 13th is unlucky. I have noticed that people born on Friday the 13th are extremely lucky and successful in life. Glad your water pump got fixed.

Nope, don't believe in it!
I really enjoyed reading this, so frigging funny lol

Well I finished drafting my sequel today, so the day's been good to me.

I don't really believe in unlucky Friday the 13th... I think any day can be luck or unlucky. Glad you got your water pump fixed. You would have needed the water to clean up the mess!

I'm glad you now have water and your bathroom is clean again.

I can't say I've had any bad luck yet today, but the night is young, so who knows.

Friday the 13th for me is usually spent watching a movie of the same name,
but as today is also Roald Dahl Day - I've been watching Tales of the Unexpected instead.

Enjoy your weekend Lexa : )

As far as I remember, no. Just a normal day. The bad things usually happen on Mondays ;)

I remember in second grade ants getting into all the kids' bagged lunches and lunch boxes stored in the coat closet. There were ants in my peanut butter sandwich. Ick!

Well, most of our bad luck hit yesterday, but we're still dealing with flooding today in Colorado. It's a mess! My parents still can't get into their home. Roads are all under water. So, yeah, this Friday the 13th lived up to its bad reputation.

I think your husband's handiness in fixing the water pump negates all the bad that happened afterward. You got it fixed after one day! That's fantastic. :)

This was a great post! I like how you found the luck amidst the unlucky. :) Glad everything got fixes.

The 13th has been fine to me so far. :)

That sounds very messy.

Yesterday was okay for me. It was an average day.

It was a great Fri 13th for me, with a couple of minor winkles. My car's getting worked on, so my brother brought me to a local hotel, where I'm spending my stay-cation. Once arrived, I realized I didn't have my purse! Can't check in without ID and credit card. :) My brother drove me back to where my car was, I got my purse and he took me to BART for me to go back to the hotel (the hotel shuttle picks you up from BARTl). I'd missed the first BART because I had a brain-fart and couldn't remember if the SF train stopped off at the Lake Merritt station.

Anyway, afterward, it returned back to a great day. Even watched and enjoyed Riddick! Writer’s Mark

Loved your Fortunately/Unfortunately story! I'm glad everything was repaired and the mess was cleaned without homicide. :)

My Friday the 13th pretty much flew by without anything bad happening, thankfully.

Hubby is very lucky you didn't throttle him for mimicking a dirty St. Bernard. :) Glad it's all sorted out, Lex.

Hee LUCKY FOR HIM made me smile! Glad it all got fixed!

I've never considered Friday the 13th unlucky, but that might be because I've always considered 13 a lucky number, haha.

Totally laughed at the "lucky for him" line! :P

Hey Lexa,

Relax for your wait for one of my cherished comments is finally over. It does appear your hubby was a lucky man.

I recall a particular Friday the thirteenth. My car broke down and I went to use my friend's car, which also broke down. Desperate to get to work on time, I tried using my other friend's motorcycle which proceeded to break down. I managed to take the bus which, surprisingly, didn't break down. Other than that, just another day!

Sorry that you had to deal with such a big mess. Your husband is very lucky that you're such a good sport! I want to say that this was fun, but I don't want my luck to change!

I've had a lot of bad luck with the number 13 (I'm writing about it in my novel), but not with Friday the 13th. Mine have been lucky, much like your hubby's.

Be well, Lexa. Have a good, lucky week.

Nope. Something good happened, though. I got my ITIN, so I don't have to worry about it again for five years. ^_^

Whew! Drama! Glad it was resolved.

My day consisted for working. Yay. All day. Until midnight. And it's a wonder I'm anxious to finish my time machine. ;)

It's great to have a handy husband, isn't it?! My husband cleared the stopped up pipes in the bathroom this week. He had to empty a whole wall of bookcases (in the office which is on the opposite side of the wall) and move them out of the way to get to the pipes. . .I had to put it all back when he was done. But he did clean up the tub that bore the brunt of the mess. And that was a first!

I'm really behind on checking blogs. I don't believe Friday the 13th is unlucky. However, I don't take any chances. :) Love your description of your day. I know about those water pumps. We used one for over 30 years. Luckily we got city water this month and don't have to worry with one anymore.

I don't really subscribe to superstition, but I don't tempt it, either. If I'm going to something where an important decision is being made, and a black cat crosses my path, I'll use an alternate path.

Things like that. :)

This is hilarious, Lexa! Didn't you just have some other big appliance go kaput? Or maybe I'm mixing you up with someone else. Anyway, I'm glad it's repaired and that your husband lived to be handy another day.
