Celebrate/Don't Celebrate & Giveaways

It's an up and down week for me, so some things I'm celebrating ... and some things I'm not:

1) My husband's off to visit his family in Cairo. This means things are quiet on the home front, and I can get more writing done.
2) Despite the fact I have more time, I'm not getting as much accomplished as I want. Isn't that always the way?

3) The neighbors in my building are very polite and helpful. Like this morning I was carrying out 2 bags of garbage and the lady across the hall happened to go out at the same time. She immediately offered to carry one. I didn't let her, but I really appreciated the offer.
4) What's going on with my upstairs neighbors? I can hear every footstep. Are they wearing giant wooden clogs? Do they keep elephants up there?

5) I'm still doing Spring Cleaning, a little at a time.
6) I'm still doing Spring Cleaning.

When you look at your life, do you usually find more silver linings or black linings?

I usually see black linings, I must admit. LOL. Even though you have some negatives in your life right now, I'm glad you also have enough positives to balance 'em out!

Well, you know, when silver tarnishes, it turns black.

I am generally a silver lining person, it makes life more fun. Of course it's easier for me, I don't have elephants living upstairs.

Elephants! Hahaha! I love it!

Ugh! Spring cleaning! My husband announced tonight that his dad is visiting us this summer so we have to clean up. Aaaaagh! So, I feel your pain.

Enjoy your "peace and quiet" with your husband away! Have a good weekend!

You are a well-balanced person!

I think that statement alone makes it clear I tend to see silver, though I note I think I've shifted more in this direction over the years to compensate for some people in my life who have shifted the other way. Hope you have a nice weekend!

Noisy upstairs neighbors doesn't sound fun at all... maybe they to start wearing only socks :) I'm with you... some weeks it's easier to see the positive in everything... other weeks, nothing is good enough :)

I once lived in a flat where the women above me walked around in high heels on wood floors 24/7. Drove me crazy enough to move and buy my own house.

I try as much as I can to look on the positive side of things. Hope that you get more time to write with your husband out of town.

That's the worst when you can hear the neighbors upstairs. One of the downsides of living in an apartment. Of course, there's always the upside - like helpful, friendly neighbors.

I make myself see silver linings although it has become a more difficult lately.

I'm optimistic. Sometimes too much. When I miss a light, I'm excited to be first in line.

I lived below an elderly couple once and I could always tell when their grandkids visited. It sounded like a herd of buffalo.

I can hear the elephant clopping now...lol. My new neighbors across the street have a weekend party, all weekend long. Cars line the streets and they even took out a neighbor's mailbox. At least they have a really great family close by to hang out with. Good luck with your continued Spring Cleaning. Happy Friday.

I usually like to look at the silver linings but every once in a while, I see black:) it's funny what you say about the neighbours are doing. Once, I was getting ready for work and I put my heels on( that's a thing of the past) , got my purse and walked out and down the stairs to be greeted by my neighbour. He asked me, rudely, if I could put my shoes on when I'm out of the building...using the F word a couple of times. I just told him to chill because " am I supposed to fly around my apartment...take a pill!" After that even whenever I heard him and his girlfriend go at it like a couple of noisy rabbits, I would bang my foot on the floor and tell them to keep quiet. They soon moved out.

My life is mostly silver linings. I don't have much to complain about.

I miss participating in "Celebrate the Small Things" and need to start again. I just have to get through the A to Z challenge, getting cataracts removed from both eyes and finishing my 2 - no 3, WIPs. LOL!

I have always been more of a silver lining type, but the last couple of years have kind of knocked that out of me, and I struggle sometimes no to look for the black. I feel your pain with the cleaning. I feel like it's almost all I do at the moment.

Beverly Stowe McClure said...

I try to concentrate on the silver lining, but sometimes it's hard. Good luck with your writing.

Blessings Lexa! I'll be back next week to celebrate the small things. Wishing you a blessed weekend and Happy Easter.

Elephants wearing clogs? I find my linings come is several shades of gray.

messymimi said...

There are always more silver linings, you just have to look for them. For example, you have a home to clean, that's a blessing!

Suzanne Furness said...

I hope there are more ups than downs but sometimes it is hard to see them! I hate it when the perfect writing opportunity is with you but you just can't seem to get in the flow.

Cathy Kennedy said...

Lexa, I've never lived in an apartment but having someone over my head would be most annoying. Thanks for stopping by for a visit yesterday's Art Sketching Through the Alphabet "L" (lighthouses & laughing cat) post. I'll be back to CTST in May, my friend. Have a good weekend!

I'm generally more optimistic overall, but I must admit to having a slightly pessimistic side during winter. I don't know if it's the exposure to light or the cooler temperatures which make me just want to hide out, but whatever it is, late fall and winter seem to have more black linings in my book.

LOLOL
I hope things quieted, and you could get what you needed, done!

Tonja Drecker said...

More time to write = less writing done. At least, that's how my world works, which is really frustrating. Sorry, about the neighbors. It's those stupid noises which are the worst. And enjoy Spring cleaning???? (I'm ignoring it now.)

Annie Neugebauer said...

Hm, a little of both, I guess? Although these days things are looking pretty shiny. :)

I loved your list. In our last apartment, we lived beside neighbors that loved to fight, but only at 3AM. Too weird. Good luck with the upstairs neighbors!

Tamara Narayan said...

I tend to be a pessimist. The writing is stagnant, the house is a mess, and I've gained too much weight watching too much TV. I know! I need one of those life coaches to straighten me out. Then again, I have two small kinder yelling at me for this and that enough as it is.

I used to have upstairs neighbors who would make some kind of rolling sound. It sounded like they were bowling.

I like your list of what's going on with your neighbors and their clog hopping upstairs. So incredibly funny. I'm participating in the AtoZchallenge for the first time this year.

I hope the neighbour upstairs has transformed from clog hopping beast to twinkle toed fairy. Enjoy your 'me' time :)

We're trying to teach our oldest the power of optimism lately. I'm naturally and optimist, but I think it might be to counteract my mother who is naturally a pessimist. Didn't want to be like her in that regard. =) There is always a good side to even the most awful of circumstances. The question is, can we see the awful times as a blessing, so that we realize how truly rich our lives are?

Silver linings, most of the time, but every now and then the dark voice in my head takes over. Those times really suck. Thankfully I shrug it off in a day or two.
