Celebrate: Lazy Days of Summer & Giveaways

I seem to spend the whole day
barely able to stay awake.

But when it's time for bed,
all of a sudden I'm like this:

And it takes me hours to fall asleep.

Does anyone else have this problem?

No, my problem is waking up suddenly and knowing I won't be able to sleep again. Especially during the week, when I have to get up at 6 am for work and I wake up too early to get up and too late to go back to sleep. :-(

Laura Clipson said...

Yeah I feel like that most days. It sucks! Have a great weekend :)

Suzanne Furness said...

Yeah, why does that happen! Not nice when you don't get enough sleep.
I'm taking a short blog break, Lexa so won't be posting a celebrations post till the end of the month in all probability. Catch you all on my return. Hope the sleep pattern sorts itself soon.

messymimi said...

So sorry that happens! It's very hard when you either can't get to sleep, or can't get back to sleep.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Yeah, it takes me a while to go to sleep. And despite the air conditioning, I don't sleep well in summer due to the heat.

Last night I was falling asleep on the couch while trying to read--kept dropping my book (one advantage of paper over e-device: a book won't break when it hits the floor!). Went up to bed--and proceeded to read no problem for an hour.

Have a great weekend!

Yes, I have this problem periodically. Thankfully I've been sleeping better these days. Less stress and regular exercise have helped but I have chronic insomnia issues sometimes.

mshatch said...

Usually no, but I have had times when I've felt sooo tired and can't wait to go to bed early but somehow I don't and then when I do, I stay up too late reading or playing scrabble on my kindle.

I know how you feel. It always takes me a long time to fall asleep at night. My mind just never stops churning! Thanks for the freebie links. Have a wonderful weekend. :)

Yolanda Renée said...

Yes, wide awake at bedtime and half asleep, especially in the middle of the day. Nap, anyone? :)

It must be the heat!

I go and go and go all day long, so within minutes of my head hitting the pillow, I'm out. Drive my husband bonkers because he can't do that.

Absolutely!!!!

So sorry you're having mixed up sleep patterns. Not sure what causes it but I've read it helps not to be on the computer for a few hours before bedtime.
Hope you have a nice relaxing weekend.

I'm sorry you're having trouble sleeping. I've struggled with insomnia in the past and know how tough it can be. Lately I've had the opposite problem and am just basically always like that sweet little duckling. I'm getting sleepy just typing this LOL.

Thanks for posting the link to Josh's book giveaway!

I don't have a problem falling asleep provided it's quiet. Mrs. C. prefers falling asleep with the TV on and I usually have to wait until she's asleep to turn it off.

I have periods when I can't sleep. This week has been one of them. I'm beginning to think it has to do with the full moon because I'm always restless at a full moon. Sounds suspiciously pagan, but maybe there is something to it…. Hope you manage to sort it out and get some rest.

The Cynical Sailor said...

I tend to fall asleep okay these days, but wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep. Old age setting in I suspect :-(

Ann V Friend said...

Been like that for the last month Lexa (smile) This week, was a bit better! Blessings and enjoy your weekend!!

It happens to me from time to time- but lately my problem has been waking up thinking too much and not being able to go back to sleep. Hope you get a good night's rest tonight~

Cute duckling and owl. I hate when that happens to me so I exercise like mad after dinner for an hour to an hour and a half. That usually ensures I fall right to sleep. Thanks for the freebies notes. I entered two of the contests.

Nope, my problem is I get home from the day job, doze off, and then I can't get to sleep at night. There's no such thing as lazy summer days for me due to work.

Anonymous said...

No, I definitely don't have that problem. My problem is feeling like that duck, most days. I need to do a better job of getting more sleep. But there's just so much to do... sigh. Hope you get some sleep this weekend.

Oh gosh, I love those animations, Lexa.

I do not sleep well at night and often curse the darkness.

Heather R. Holden said...

I know exactly what you mean. Insomnia has been besties with me for years, LOL. Sorry you've been struggling with sleep lately, as well!

kimlajevardi.com said...

I sometimes have that problem during the summer. Running during the day helps me tire myself out for the night if that appeals to you. Although, the temps you've mentioned getting there probably preclude running outside.

Have a great weekend, Lex. I hope you get some rest.

I go to sleep almost right away (around 9:30 or 10:00 p.m., but then sometimes I wake up way too early and can't get back to sleep. Which is so weird, because in college I was a night owl: up until 2:00 am, then sleeping until about 9:00 when I could. Things change! 😊

Tonja Drecker said...

I have more of a problem of waking up around 2:00am and not being able to go back to sleep. Hope you figure it out!

Yvonne Ventresca said...

Oh yes! I agree!

Cathy Kennedy said...

Lexa, oh yeah, I've had days where I drag around barely able to keep awake and think sure as the world the second my head hits the pillow it will be lights out, but find myself eyes wide open with my brain buzzing with activity. That's so frustrating, too. Thanks for popping in for a visit. Here's hoping you get a better night's sleep.

Even though it's still hot and humid, I feel fall is just around the corner. I can't wait! I'm celebrating baby barn swallows this week, with #CTST Hope you have a good weekend, Lexa! www.dianeweidenbenner.com

I do that a lot. If I succumb to a nap - I love midday naps - then I'll be up past 2a and wondering if I'll ever get to sleep. A vicious cycle.

Kelley said...

I have an odd sleep rhythm, too. I get up very early most days (pre-sunrise), and am ready to crash by about 7pm. I can't sleep longer than about 4 hours at a time, though, No fun!
I wish us ZZZZZZZZZZZs.

cleemckenzie said...

I'm the duck. The owl, not so much. I continue in duck mode pretty much always. I don't actually do any work myself anymore; i hire assistants. But don't tell, okay?

Beverly Stowe McClure said...

That's me. Sometimes I get sleepy early afternoon and take a nap. Then I can't sleep at night for sure.

TheCyborgMom said...

This sounds exactly like me! Literally, I could nap at any time during the day, but once it's "bedtime" I'm wide awake! Infuriating! Hope your weekend was enjoyable...mine was busy, but in a good way :)

I've had that problem before. I'm naturally a night person, and now having to get the kids off to school early in the morning, I have entire days where I feel like a zombie. When I go to bed, though, that's when my writer brain is most active.

klahanie said...

Hey Lexa,

Oh yeah, I can totally relate to what you note. I'm not actually sure what bedtime is. After all, I'm in every time zone but the one I live in!

Thanks for the links!

I'm outta' here...

Gary :)

I don't usually feel like I'm falling asleep during the day, but I have trouble turning my brain off at night. >_<

I'm a total insomniac. Total. Yes. Techniques: learn the body connection technique to put yourself into the most relaxed position. Light--get rid of all light pollution and dim the light significantly at least an hour before you lay down. Don't exercise or eat within 3 hours of bedtime. If you have allergies, get them treated. Make sure your bedding is cleaned regularly. Try a new pillow. If none of that works, check your walls. It could be something in your environment that's stimulating your brain.

Hello, Lexa.

I'm on so much medication now that yes, I'm tired all day like but my meds knock me out at night so I get a lot of sleep but never quite feel that I'm fully awake. Bleh!

Sorry that I've been mostly MIA, lately. I'm trying to be more consistent in my blogging but I'm not writing/doing much at all at the moment. Doesn't bode well for university (beginning next month).

Hope you're well. X

Just swap your routine around... sleep all day and party.. or write... all night:)

I try not to take a nap during the day, but then it's so hard to keep my eyes open, especially if I'm at home. Also, another problem is that I wake up insanely starving from a nap.
