It turns out I didn't have the flu last week. The fever was from a jaw infection due to grinding my teeth when I sleep. That's the third time it's happened in a year, and the other two ended in abscesses. Apparently when I tell myself I "must" write my WIP and work harder, I get really stressed and clench my teeth at night.

Jaw infection sounds painful.. hope you feel better soon. Funny how stress manifests itself. Just write at your own pace as it's not worth your health.
Sorry to hear that, Lexa. Taking it easy for a while sounds like the best plan. Hope you feel better soon.
It sounds painful! Do you have to see a dentist, the new?
No, I'm afraid I don't play Pokemon Go, and not interested! Idiots with their eyes down have accidents. One total nutcase here crashed his car playing it!
Grinding your teeth? Is there something you can wear to bed so you don't do that?
No Pokemon for me, no interest in "augmented" reality--real reality is enough fun!
I was thinking what Alex was--some kind of something to keep you from grinding? Have a nice weekend.
Jaw infection sounds very painful.
That meme is hilarious!! No Pokemon for me.
Ouch. I clench my teeth sometimes but I've never ground them at night.
Love the Pokemon flamingos.
May your stress ease and your jaw heal!
Yikes - a jaw infections! Sounds painful. I used to grind my teeth at night quite a bit when I was working a corporate job with all of the stress that goes with it. Now, I grind them a lot less.
I hope the dentist gave you an appliance to wear at night to help with this grinding problemproblem. I had to wear one for years, but thankfully, no more.. Stress is behind so many health problems.
Ow, sorry to hear about that! Hope it sorts itself sooner rather than later. I've not tried Pokemon Go. I only just got a smart phone this year, I figure it'll take me a couple more years before I'm in to games on them. =)
A few years ago, I had the worst tension headache that lasted for three weeks. All I could do was sleep. My ears were ringing and my taste buds went haywire. Everything salty tasted okay, but anything sweet tasted like acid. As you may guess, I was suffering from TMJ (or TMD). I don't grind my teeth, but I clench them in my sleep. Now I have medicine for these types of headaches and things are better. Hope you get better as well.
My daughter plays Pokemon Go, but she only has a iPad mini, not the phone. So there is a limit on how much she can play.
I'm celebrating the fact that I could not get Pokemon Go to work on my cell phone. Seems like it could be a major time sink. Plus I'm not sure you can even play it in the rural area where I live, though my niece is playing it in nearby Menominee, Michigan.

Sorry to hear about your teeth clenching. I've had that problem too whenever I'm stressed about something. Haven't played pokemon go and intend to never do so. Games will simply make me more stressed about writing I didn't complete.
I'm so sorry to hear about your jaw infection. Sounds so painful!! I hope you are much better now or at least on the road to recovery.
It makes me nervous too because I clench and grind my teeth when stressed, which seems to be always anymore. I guess I better mention the grinding to my dentist the next time I go.
Take care, Lexa!
My dentist tells me I grind my teeth at night but I'm not aware of it and neither is Mrs. Chatterbox.
Maybe you should do something relaxing right before bed, like listen to music or try Lavendar aromatherapy? Or, a glass of decaf tea... I'm sorry you are experiencing a lot of stress. Try and have a good weekend. www.dianeweidenbenner.com #CTST
I hope you figure out a way to keep the teeth-grinding from getting to such terrible levels. Take it easy for a while. Nothing earth-shattering is going to happen if you don't get that WIP written in a hurry. It's not worth getting sick over.
So sorry you were under the weather. I think you need to relax more. Hope you have a great weekend with time for fun.
Sorry about the infection. I hope you can get the grinding under control with some nice doses of rose smelling or Pokemon Go. I understand the tooth grinding. I just bought a mouth guard for the same reason.
Have you tried a mouth guard? I had one for a period of time when I was clenching my jaw at night and causing problems.
I play Pokemon Go. I tried to avoid it, couldn't imagine myself enjoying it. I have never played any kind of video game since I discovered I was no good at Pong in the 1970s.
But everyone else in the house was doing it. And then my daughter got my phone and loaded the app and ... the rest is history.
I bet you have some cool Pokemon in Egypt. Do tell!
That sounds awful, not to mention incredibly painful. You definitely need to ease up on yourself. Writing isn't worth ruining your health over.
We haven't gotten into Pokémon Go yet, though my kids do like Pokémon.
Have a restful weekend!
I grind my teeth so much sometimes, when I'm stressed. It's annoying, how can you stop yourself from grinding your teeth when you sleep? I always know when I've been doing it because I wake up with jaw ache. Hope you're feeling better!
So sorry to hear that, Lexa. Hope you find a stress outlet soon.
I grind my teeth at night so now I wear a guard. It cost some money to get it done and it takes getting used to but if I ever forget to put it in and sleep without it, my jar really hurts the next day. I would advise to get one to help you out. I love that Pokemon joke because it's so true. My niece, and my best friend's son are playing this. At least they are getting exercise and as my friend's son said, he is going to places he normally wouldn't go to. I find it hilarious myself but I would never do it.
Have you tried sleeping with a nightguard? It can help prevent damage from the grinding. Hope you are feeling better!
Am I the only person who doesn't know what Pokemon is?
I had a similar problem with my jaw - the doctor diagnosed Mandibular Jaw Disfunction due to my bite and referred me to my dentist, who said that it could be dealt with if it persisted/got worse. I didn't ask how - and strangely, it's cleared up now.
Lexa, grinding your teeth until you get a jaw infection doesn't sound good. You're the first person I've heard whose done this sort of thing and you say this is your 3rd time? You can buy an over the counter dental night guard that's design to help eliminate the grinding of the teeth. They are affordable. I bought one a few years back from Amazon, here. If you want to learn more or you can get such a device customized for your mouth from you dentist. You may want to ask your dentist for a recommendation, especially since this is a recurring problem. Oh well...I hope you're now doing better.
I got a jaw infection from my wisdom teeth pushing out and it was no fun. Good luck! And yes, I have played Pokémon Go a bit :) My son has played more than me, though.
Cant they give you some kind of retainer to stop the grinding?
As for pokeman, I have never seen ti.
I hope you're feeling better. Chronic stuff sucks, no two ways. I'm in the midst of my 3rd or 4th round of antibiotics this year for a sinus infection. There's only so much you can do when something becomes an infection. :(
Best to you, lady!
That grinding teeth thing is not good. Glad you found out what was causing you to feel rotten, though and that you're off on a Pokemon adventure. Wear pink. It's a good color for that hunt. :-)
Ouch! A jaw infection sounds awful! Hopefully you can successfully reduce stress and take care of the problem.
Love the Pokemon Go image!
I hope you're better now, Lexa. That sounds so painful.
I've never played Pokémon, but the flamingoes are beautiful.
Have a good week.
No interested in Pokeman. I have enough ways to waste time already. But my son's family are all into it.
Have you tried a mouth guard at night? That should help some. But I think some kind of nighttime stress reliever would be a better way to go. Music works for some. Or listen to an audio book as you go to sleep and let it keep playing. Preferably one you've listened to before so you won't stay awake to hear what happens, but not one you like so well that you'll stay awake waiting for the next really good part.
So sorry to hear about the teeth grinding. Managing stress isn't easy and shows itself in the strangest of places (that we can't control)- so it is best to take things a little slower. I know- it is hard to do! Put on your to do list to relax each day. :)
~Jess
Oh my gosh! >.< That sounds awful. I'm assuming you already have a mouth guard and it just isn't working? I'm so sorry! I do hope you find a way to relax and get rid of some of that stress.
I agree with the comments, your dentist needs to give you a mouthpiece to wear at night. Abscesses are seriously. And two is bad. Hope you feel better fast, Lexa. I feel for you. Tooth pain is the worst.
Oh, yikes! That really sucks about the jaw infection. I tend to push myself way too hard for my projects, too, and it always ends negatively. Hope you're able to find a way to stress less!
Hi, Lexa,
BUMMER.... You can get a night guard. They sell them a chain drugstores. It's kind of like a gel thing that you put into your mouth and it molds around your teeth. That should help a lot. They make it for sufferers of TMJ which is what you have in extreme where the jaw is misaligned and there is major pain.
I hope you feel better....
Thanks for the info on freebees ....
HAPPY WEEKEND!
I hope you're feeling much better. I agree with the others about a mouth guard.
Sorry to hear about your teeth. It's hard to ignore pain from your mouth. I hope you're better now. Mouth infections are serious. My husband's childhood friend died from a tooth infection when he was 15.
I'm not playing Pokemon Go, but I heard there is or will be a Harry Potter Go. Now THAT I might play.
You have great things to cheer about this time, Lexa. I'll bet you have the cleanest A/C ducts around! So happy you're getting such good comments on your work.
