Celebrate: Flailing, Snow on Cinders & Giveaways!

This week I'm celebrating:
1)  Flailing wildly, but not going under!
2)  I seem to have over-estimated what I could get done in a 2 week period.  Promises to critique someone's novella, read & review 2 ARCs before the books are released (this weekend!), and keep up with crits for my CP group is taking longer than I thought. Plus I had to write a craft newsletter for a writing site ... but hmm ... isn't there something I'm forgetting??  Oh yeah -- revise my novel!!  Well, that's not happening, but at least I'm managing to do everything I promised for everyone.
3) My hubby's coming home after a long trip.  The house is a complete disaster, and ya know what?  It's gonna stay that way for a while ... a long while.

Wish me luck as I flail my way through crits and reviews and maybe some revising. :)

Anyone else out there flailing?  Or have you got it all under control?

Flailing is the perfect word for my life at the moment, as is over committed. I actually added another layer to my ToDo list, so I can filter to a smaller, more manageable daily list. We will get through it.

We all take on more than we can do sometimes. Good luck with everything, and I'm sure you'll get to revise your novel soon enough. Have a great weekend!

Happy flailing but don't panic, sounds like you are getting there! I think we can all relate to this feeling sometimes. Hope you have a nice weekend with hubby home.

I'm right there with you.. flailing a lot this week with very little done, or at least what I'd planned to do. Just do what you can. That's my motto this week.

PlanetKimberly said...

I'm always flailing. lol Good luck to you, though!

I have faith in you, Lexa. I flail daily, but somehow we get through it. :) X

As long as you're flailing arms, you'll stay afloat. And believe me, your husband won't even notice the house. Not right when he gets home anyway.
Big congratulations to Constantine!

It's good to be busy, right? Right?

Enjoy your weekend!

Snow on Cinders sounds like a good read, and what a great title!

How lovely to have your husband home with you.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend ♥

ACK! That's a lot to get done.

I've been there on numerous occasions!!! Flailing, that is!!! Sometimes I overestimate what I can accomplish, like we all do. Good Luck getting it all done.

Lexa, thank you for plugging my book, Snow On Cinders!!!!! It looks great!!! And I'd like to thank everyone for their nice comments!!!!

Mere Joyce said...

It's been crazy busy here, too...glad you're managing, even if it's a little flailingly!

Beautiful cover for Cathrina!

Annie Neugebauer said...

Well, generosity often leads to flailing. :) You'll get it all done and be back to your own work before you know it, I'm sure. (Btw, I'd love to have my Halloween giveaway listed in your freebies!)

Lara Schiffbauer said...

You are doing an amazing job, even if you are flailing! Much of life feels like flailing, anyway, doesn't it? :)

The cover for Snow on Cinders is beautiful!

Linda Kay said...

Lexa, I feel your pain in the revising and editing. A part of us just wants to get it done and move on!

I flail quite often. Right now, I owe three book reviews, while working on final edits, my book cover, and winterizing my house. The to-do list keeps on growing... and growing... and growing...
Congrats to Cathrina on her book release and good luck to you!!

stephen Hayes said...

I can't recall a time when I was under control.

Yolanda Renée said...

I'm just beginning to get the flailing under control, thank you. The WEP challenge is always a surprise. I'm so looking forward to November when I can concentrate on the WIP both of them. LOL
Relax, breathe, and then jump in again!

Yay to messy households! We can't do everything and should enjoy the more important things in life. And even if you over-estimated (why do we always do that?), sounds like you got a lot done. Good for you!

Birgit said...

I'm not flailing but I am not writing a book or doing all you are doing. You will get everything done, maybe not in the time you thought you would..but you will get it all done. As for housework...that'll keep. I have a little pottery hanging that says "Bless this mess"

Rajiv Sankarapillai said...

Enjoy a beautiful weekend!

I feel that way at the moment too... There is always more work to do than there are hours in the day. As long as you keep your head above water. And maybe once you get out from under all the work this time, you'll remember how tough it was and not overcommit again for a while.

H.R. Bennett said...

All I can imagine is Kermit the frog flailing about now.

oh man, I have flailing periods where I bite off way more than I can chew! hang in there, and def let the house stay as is...I find there's little point to cleaning, since it just gets messy again in like a day!

Starting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe said...

I used to flail often, now I try not to commit too much of myself. I no longer sweat the small stuff but unfortunately there is still too much big stuff around. I do what I can and the rest will wait for mañana.

messymimi said...

When flailing, the first thing to go is the house, so tell your husband he can come to see you any time, but if he wants to see the house he has to make an appointment! Good luck getting it all done!

Patricia said...

I am pretty laid back. If things get to the flailing point I come to a complete stop. The way I handle having too much to do is not to do some of it. Somehow it all works out.

Beverly Stowe McClure said...

Wishing you lots of luck. Relax, take life one day at a time. I catch myself flailing too because I commit to more than I can do. So, I do the best I can. The reviews will get done, maybe not on time, but better late than never, right? I'm trying to spend more time on my writing and take care of other things the best I can. You'll do fine, just slow down. Have a nice weekend and enjoy your husband's homecoming.

Control is an illusion, oh, a beautiful illusion but nevertheless an illusion. I like flailing, it's awesome and a good way to expunge the negative energy? Been where you are, I believe flail was also my reaction. House untidy? Meh is that important? Sorry to hear you didn't get to revise your novel, but look at all the things you did manage to do and keep doing and oh you were busy and awesome. Beautiful reasons to be grateful. As ever thanks Lexa, and have a lovely weekend and (hopefully) a quieter week ahead.

Laura Clipson said...

I do this all the time, I give myself far too much to do, thinking I can get it all done. Like you, it's usually the things I need to do for myself that fall by the wayside. Good luck getting everything done!

Good luck getting things finished.

Great post Lexa. I've been wearing a theme for weeks. Flailing is so appropriate. (smile) I like your style. Thank you for not dropping me if the Celebrate list (smile) I appreciate and am grateful I'm still in the group. Blessings, Lexa as we crawl and walk through (wink)

Thanks for adding me back to the linky party, Lexa! I'm flailing this week with blogging, but it's because my schedule has been off the entire time. I've spent more time outdoors enjoying fall than being stuck indoors. There will be time enough for that once winter arrives, right? Oh well, so glad to hear your hubby will be home soon. What a wonderful feeling! Enjoy your time and don't worry with the house....it can wait!

Claudia H. Blanton said...

Is that a husband coming home thing - cause as soon as my hubby came home last week, the house started looking like a bomb hit, lol. Oh well - have a great week!

Denise Covey said...

Aren't writers always flailing? That list of projects never seems to get any smaller. Writing reviews is so easily forgotten under the weight of responsibility. I try to keep up by adding my Read books to goodreads, then writing a short review. When I have time I copy it to Amazon. And it's tough living with a less-than-pristine house. Hubby will be so pleased to see you he won't notice!

Flailing sounds too energetic for what I've been doing, which is more like being a couch potato, watching mindless TV, and moping because I don't like my WIP or any of my ideas for new ones.

At least, up until a couple days ago when I got re-energized and started writing again. Yay!

Michelle Wallace said...

Hey Lexa
Hope you're over the "flailing phase"...
I still need to write a few book reviews and post to GR and Amazon. All in good time.
Snow On Cinders has such a cool cover!

Julie Flanders said...

LOL I love this - suits me much better than the Keep Calm pics. Panicking is my natural state.
I hope you were able to get some of your work done while flailing. :)

DMS said...

I am completely flailing right now and have been for about a month. I can totally relate to taking on too much. But- we will get done as much as we cna. Good luck making a dent in all your work. :)

I love helping others, but sometimes I have to say no because I don't want to fall behind my own work. I can surprise myself with what I cross off on my to-do list. Snow on Cinders looks like a great read.

Crystal Collier said...

I'm always flailing. I don't blame others for doing to same. Such is life, eh?

Heather R. Holden said...

I have a tendency to overestimate, too. And, oh...flailing. I'm quite familiar with that, as well. LOL. Sorry you've been too busy to concentrate on your revisions lately! Good luck finding time for that again, as well as keeping up with all your other responsibilities!

Nas said...

I'm always over committing and flailing! It seems to be a way of life now.

kimlajevardi.com said...

Flailing sounds about right. I cannot have anything that disrupts my days, or it's more like full-arm flails as I fall off a cliff. Good luck getting caught up.

Hi, Lexa....

You're in good company.... I know how it is. I always lend a hand when needed and now with my loft rehab, I barely have time to write out the checks.... And there are lots of them.... SHEESH... You are doing good for others and that will always be rewarding. When the time is right for your work, it will happen...

CONGRATS to Cathrina!!! fantastic cover and blurb! I've been out of the loop for a while, and didn't even know she had a new novel!

ALL THE BEST, CAT!!!!!

J.H. Moncrieff said...

Yep, definitely flailing over here! Let's hope we can get everything done.

Good luck with your projects!
