Celebrate: What You Think... & Giveaways!

This week I'm celebrating:
I'm churning out the rough draft of the 5 final chapters of my WIP, Bloodwalker.  Woohoo!!  I finished 3 chapters since Tuesday, and today and tomorrow, I'll be writing the final 2 chapters.

What does this have to do with the funny pics above?  When I finish a rough draft of action scenes with exciting cliffhangers, I get so excited!  I feel like I just lived it! But that's the rough draft.  If I look at the chapter in the cold light of day, I'm stunned by what a giant pile of poo it is, and how much revising it needs.  Which is why I'm finishing all 5 chapters before taking a hard look and doing revisions.  ('Cause it ain't gonna be pretty...)

Do you ever finish  a project or take a picture you're totally sure is awesome, but in the cold light of the next day, find something completely different?

LOL, loving all those funnies! And, oh gosh, I so know what you mean about the "cold light of day." Like, I'll get an awesome idea for a piece of art, but once I actually draw it, I'm all, "Oh, that's what you look like." And then I cringe to death. (Haha.)

Anyway, best of luck with those final chapters! (How exciting!) Hopefully the cold light of day won't be too cruel to you once you look over this WIP... ;)

Final two chapters - get it done! And I'm sure it's not that bad.
Like the one about looking sexy. When it comes to how I think I look in most of the situations, I'm not fooling myself. I know I look like a dork.

Good luck with those revisions.

Yeah, I'm finding my current WiP is a steaming pile. Good luck with those last two chapters, maybe you can have at least one day this weekend to celebrate finishing!

You can do it Lexa!!! Sounds like you're moving right along. And yes, I feel the same way you do. It's good to let your words stew for a bit before going back to taste it's flavor, which in my case can be awful....Good Luck!

Hahaha, love those memes. Yeah... if only I could get the book right on the first draft (rather than the fifth or sixth, as I usually do). Best of luck with those final two chapters! :)

Love the funny pics. Seems I always need a good laugh. Good luck with the revisions.

Hilarious images and so true! I agree with you. Every time I finish a writing project I think it's amazing. I wait a day or two before I come back to it (so I can savor the amazing it's amazing stage maybe ;p). When I do I usually have to chop it a lot. That's the real horror in my writing—all the slicing and chopping that happens to a manuscript before publishing.

I can't wait to read you newest when it gets off the chopping block!

Those pics got me PMSL!!!

Congrats on (almost) finishing your first draft! All of our first drafts are poop, it's what comes before the sparkle. :) Goood luck with the sparkle. X

I think we all create things under the haze of a rosy glow, only to have the light of day show our efforts to be less than we'd hoped for. But sometimes when you can't remember what the goal was, it's possible to look at your work unencumbered by the baggage of intention.

Thanks for starting my day with laughter. The photos and sayings are priceless.
My rough drafts are always pathetic. They always need lots of work. I'm learning to just keep writing without making corrections the first time through. Then I at least have an idea of where I'm going.
Have a nice weekend.

Woohoo! Get those last chapters! When I get these great ideas and storm to the computer to type in the scene, I'm sure it's a masterpiece. Gosh, reality hits hard! I'm convinced that 'good' writing doesn't exist before edits and revisions.
Great line of freebies this week!

I hope I don't look so bad ;) Hope you finish the final 2 chapters fast.

Hee, hee! You made me laugh out loud, particularly at the yawning horse. Yes, I've definitely written things and thought they were great until I read them a day or two later. What was I thinking??
Good luck getting your chapters finished!

Yes - loving those photos and comments, Lexa - I've done one about my hair if you want to take a look? And wow - congratulations on getting those chapters done but I know what you mean about the cold light of day - sometimes that happens with lesson planning and I get to school and throw the whole lot out the window because I realise it's never gonna work that way! Have a great weekend :) Special Teaching at Pempi’s Palace

Great celebration, Lexa. Even worse, I take a couple of chapters to my critique group and get waaaayyyy too much feedback. They are really kind, but I'm left with "why didn't I think of that or see it?"

Unknown said...

Oh my first drafts smell. I have now accepted that and I don't judge them. But yes I do obliterate them, entirely and mercilessly. Thank you so much for adding me to the blog hop I'm loving it. Have a lovely weekend. :D

Oh yeah I know that feeling! Those pics are great, I can really relate to a number of them! Hope the writing and revising goes well. Happy writing :)

Those pictures are hilarious and so true! Every time I write something that I think is brilliant looks different when I come back to it later. It's even more dramatic when I look at things I wrote years ago. Good luck with the rough draft and revisions!

SK Anthony said...

I'm truly all of those "what I really look like" pics. It's a sad day when we find out the reality . . . just as it is when we reopen our drafts and look for those scenes we were so excited about and be like . . . "this was it?" LOL Loved how you tied them in ;)

Yay for only needing 5 more chapters for the first draft! Have fun with them :D

Kate Larkindale said...

I'm sure your rough draft chapters aren't nearly as terrible as you think they are. Just don't take too long over them, because I'm waiting to read them!

Claudia H. Blanton said...

I am laughing so hard my stomach hurts - brilliant pictures!
Have a great weekend!

Love the pics!
So true, what you think and the truth are in opposite realms!

Congrats on all the hard work!
Have a wonderful weekend!

The pictures are a hoot! And sadly the reality is scary ugly.

Loved all those pictures. Glad you're gaining ground, too, with your writing.

mshatch said...

I totally feel that way about first drafts! It's wonderful and perfect until it gets a second read thru...and omg I loved those pics of what you think you look like - especially the sick one! That's totally me - unfortunately!

DMS said...

Such funny pictures- they made me laugh because I know I see myself differently in so many of those situations. :)

Congrats on the writing! Woo hoo! You are getting so much done. I am hoping to get a lot of writing done later today. I need to write more and worry about fixing things less as I go. Good luck with the last chapters. :)

Love these! And yes, in the cold light of day, things often do look very different, and sometimes it's funny, and sometimes it's not!

Birgit said...

You'll get it done and then you will look like the woman with the wind-blown hair. Can I say that today I really needed a good laugh and OMG did I ever. That Ostrich pic just had me laughing out loud also the poor girl sleeping as that happened to me but I had drool also. The sexy pic also made me laugh

Murees Dupè said...

Those funny pictures had me screaming with laughter, Thank You. Congratulations on all your progress. That is wonderful. Keep up the awesome work.

Sue Bursztynski said...

Definitely some loud laughs at those pics! And yes, I get the "cold hard light of day" thing. That's why I put away my manuscripts for a while. It doesn't always work, of course. I pick it up after months and still think it looks good and then the publisher thinks differently, even if they buy it. ;-)

Rhonda Albom said...

LOL - Yes! I can totally relate. The segment I brought to my critique group this morning was amazing when I hit the print button, and by the time it reached the critique table, not so good. It is better now, my critique partners are awesome.

Love the pictures--I can relate to the chocolate eating one, for sure! Congrats on finishing up your rough draft! :)

You've clearly been hard at work, congratulations :)

Those pictures made me laugh so much! Especially the Angelina Jolie and dog one, ha!

Enjoy your week.

Congrats on finishing Bloodwalker. You're almost to the finish line...unless you finished it over the weekend.

Catherine Stine said...

Congrats on cranking those chapters out!!! And, hey, I love that funny horse photo. My first drafts usually horrify me. But after a second draft, I'm usually pleased with how much I've spiked up the punch.

Julia Thorley said...

Oh yes. Like when I'm strutting down the high street thinking I'm looking OK today, and then catching sight of my reflection and realising that I'll never see 30 again (or 40, or 50).

cleemckenzie said...

Okay, I'm so not buying that you're not the first in each comparison picture. Seriously. Well, except the one with Angelina Joli. I recognized her.

kimlajevardi.com said...

All the time, especially when writing drafts. Congrats on the chapter progress. I've got some reading to do.

Happy writing! Hilarious pics. Yes, so true. I think I'm writing something hot, but those first drafts are pretty bad.

Inge H. Borg said...

Oh,Lexa. I needed a good laugh at four in the morning when I look like ... oh, no. Let's not go there!
But, thanks, I needed that in the coming harsh light of day.

Stephen Tremp said...

Ha! I can totally relate to falling asleep in public. I have no shame. I'll sprawl out and snore up a storm anywhere.

Crystal Collier said...

Morning after syndrome... I used to feel that way about writing afterwards, but in recent years I typically love it more the next day...unless it's totally wrong, because sometimes we allow the characters to derail us, eh?

Annie Neugebauer said...

Okay, this made me giggle. :) Love the memes! And congrats on reaching the end!!

alexia said...

Yay on finishing up your first draft!! My first drafts are always ugly, so I don't sweat it :)

Shannon Lawrence said...

Pulling out stories I wrote a decade ago, that I have a fondness for, often feels like that. Hm, valid idea, but boy was that writing so 10 years ago. ;) Good luck finishing up that rough draft!

Thanks for the laughs, Lexa. The photos are hysterical. But--how'd you get pics of me!!!
