Celebrate: Spam a LOT & Freebies

This week I'm celebrating learning to swim with the fishes on Twitter.  I'm not as intimidated as I was last week.  After all, there's no real reason to worry about posting something dumb or messing up a re-tweet.  It's not brain surgery.  Everyone will live through it.  And I've gotten over 600 followers so far.  Yay me!

On the bad side, I've gotten a lot of followers for the Celebrate Hop this week, too -- but not real followers.  They're horrible spammers who've been posting 30-50 links a day in the Linky.  All to dirty pages in Vietnam and Indonesia. I have to go every day to the master Linky list and delete them -- but more pop up the following day.

BEWARE - The last true Celebrate link is #57 "Carole Ann Carr." If there are links after that - they are fake names and will take you to places you don't want to go.  Sorry about this.  There's no way to block who signs up on the Linky.  I just have to keep deleting and hope they eventually get tired of posting.

Ever have a problem with Spammers on your blog or email?  It should really be a punishable crime, right?

Celebrate the Small ThingsTo be part of this blog hop, all you have to do is put your name on the linky list on Lexa's Blog, and then post every Friday about something you're grateful  for that week.  It can be about writing or family or school or general life.  This is the funnest and easiest blog hop ever! (Originated by VikLit)

Yes, I've had issues with spammers - they are slime. #57 - I'll see i I can revert my post and add that info.

Hang touch Lexa! Have a great weekend.

Spammers can be so annoying. They're impossible to avoid altogether, unfortunately. Have a great weekend!

Wow, really sorry to hear about the spammy hoppers. That really sucks. Gotta figure out some way of getting rid of them. Glad you're having a good time on Twitter.

Not been on Twitter much this week, but am following and thanks for the follow back! Sorry to hear about the spammers, that is really annoying. Hope they give up soon.

Happy weekend, Lexa.

I've gotten a big boost in pageviews in the last day or two and I'm wondering if they are spammers who are trying to spam me after seeing my blog listed on this blog hop. I'm not sure how that works, but it's both weird and scary. I'm glad you're on top of things. Thanks so much! Have a great weekend!

Hate them spammers... they are always clogging up my blog with fake comments... and they're as long as an essay. Yay on 600 followers on twitter. you're doing so well.

I've never had it on linky's but I've not hosted a Linky for years. My blog gets thousands but I have great spam filters and at fabulous host who obliterates the worse offenders. :)

I have no idea how you can get rid of them on a linky? Make a new linky, close it, if others want to join they apply for space through a contact page (can you have contact forms on Blogger?)

You can't be expected to filter smut every day Lexa. You need to be writing!

You know I've had more than my share of spammers. I've even blocked whole countries which defeats the purpose of a true blog I don't have time for the smut as my writing suffers terribly trying to stay on social media. I'm down to blogging once a week just to keep in touch with you guys. Love this hop. Hate the spammers. Will stop after #57.

It's really annoying that you can't block those spammers :(

I'm glad you're getting the hang of Twitter.

Have a wonderful weekend, Lexa ♥

You're doing great on Twitter! I've been on there for years and still have under 300 followers, so you're going great guns!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

That really sucks about the spammers. I wonder if there is a way to block them? Email Brent Riggs and ask.
With the Challenge in full swing, I have barely seen my Twitter feed this month...

I don't think there is really a way to stop these hateful spammers. Once you put yourself out there on any form of social media, you are vulnerable.

ELAdams said...

Welcome to Twitterland! I get a lot of spam emails, but luckily my spam filters catch most of them.

Melissa Ann said...

Spammers suck. :( Sadly once you are out there they just attack you.

Cathrina Constantine said...

Wow, you're rocking on Twitter!!! Have a nice weekend.

Lexa, I think you can screen them out. Check with blogger. I used to get spammers in the comments section, and that's why I screen comments. They never make it to the page. I wonder if you could request people to leave their links in the comments section. I think it's horrible that jerks out there abuse such a good idea as celebrating small things. Whew. Makes you wonder what kind of life they have.

Linda Kay said...

I get a few spammers, but I just delete them when they come to my email.

blech, hate spammers!! My brother did something to stop it on my site, but I still get the emails and twitter spam stuff. beyond annoying!

Spammers are a royal pain in the behind. Congrats on your Twitter success! That's amazing!

Birgit said...

Oh spammers are horrible and I have not yet run across that and hopefully will not. I would not know what to do

Spammers are annoying. Sorry to hear they're making it to the Linky and making things doubly difficult for you. You're totally rocking Twitter. Go you!

Tyrean Martinson said...

I don't allow comments three days after I post. This, unfortunately, has hurt some of my nice, sweet buddies, but it helped cut down the spam comments. I have had a few spammers . . . and they are awful, awful, awful. There should be some kind of "wrist-slap" type punishment or something . . . ugh.

Yay for tweet followers and freebies! Happy Weekend!

Julie Flanders said...

Oh geez, I'm sorry about the spammers. I've never heard of them popping up on the Linky lists, but I have had them leaving comments on my blog before. Such a damn nuisance.
Yay for your Twitter success!

I'm happy to see my friend Carole's name, but those spammers... what are they thinking? Can life be that drastic that they have to spam for a living? We need to hunt down a few and interview them. I'm curious why they've chosen to spam anyone.

Stephen Tremp said...

Not spammers but those who believe in science and heckle the religous or spiritual posts and the Christains who heckle the scientific posts. From time to time I have to turn on the Comment Approval so I can delete those nasty posts so no on else can see them.

Sharon Himsl said...

Awful the spam you mention. Glad you are here patrolling everything!

messymimi said...

Not too much spam on my blog, for which i am grateful, but i'm also not taking it for granted. Sorry it's been so bad lately.

TheCyborgMom said...

I haven't had to worry too much about spam on my blog...I guess I just haven't "made it" yet ;)
Seriously though, is there a way to shut down the linky and reopen it? Would that even help? Or a linky that requires those captcha things? Let me know if there is anything I can do. And thanks for the heads up!

I really don't understand spammers - although some of the subjects of my email spam are hilarious. Not sure I should repeat any of them here though! ;-)

cheerfuloptimistic said...

All that spam sucks, but it's great you're getting the hang of Twitter.

David Powers King said...

I don't get spam all that much, but I made it a point to say I would delete them in my disclaimer. :)

cleemckenzie said...

So far not much trouble with spammers. When I get one I usually get several, then after I clean them up, none for a while.

Jolie du Pre said...

Yeah, I noticed that the linky list was filling up with spammers. I'm glad you're removing them. Have a good weekend!

Thank you so much for your visit to my blog, Lexa. The sun is shining for once over our small island, so hoping to enjoy the weekend, hope you do too.

I'm currently being hounded by Russian spammers. Sometimes I get more visits from Russia than America, and i seriously doubt people in Russia are reading my blog.

Catherine Stine said...

Spam sucks! Let's all get out the spam guns!

Deanie Humphrys-Dunne said...

Congratulations on all of your twitter followers! Sorry about the unwanted spammers. Hope you're enjoying the weekend.

I am not a fan of spammers either. I have had some spam on my blog and I never understand it. Sorry the spammers keep coming back. I hope they get tired soon. :)

There should be some sort of virtual public shaming for spammers -- or thumbscrews.

kimlajevardi.com said...

Here's to enjoying your swim in tweets. That just sounds so weird. ;)

I hate spammers. There are a few more now. They deserve their own circle in hell for all the agitation they cause.

I hope to join the Friday posting someday. Time is so elusive at the moment. Soon... I hope.

Ava Quinn said...

Gah! Spammers!! ::shakes fist vehemently in their general direction::

Glad you're getting your groove on Twitter!

Annie Neugebauer said...

Ugh, spam! As annoying as it is, I feel bad for whoever sits around with nothing better to do than create programs that mess with people on the internet, you know? But yay for Twitter! You're doing great!

Jeff Chapman said...

Sorry this is creating work for you. Some moron keeps posting the same message to my contact page. Obvious spam and so annoying.

Anonymous said...

I don't get too much spam, except for one email account I have. I used to be so self-conscious on Twitter. I would delete tweets that had minor errors. I no longer do that.

Julia Thorley said...

As others have said, that might exlain the increase in people reading my blog. I've had some strange comments, but I get to screen everything before it's posted, thank goodness. Keep up the good work at your end.

Heather R. Holden said...

Over 600 followers? Wow! I've been on Twitter for years, but am still nowhere near that many, LOL. Congrats!

That really sucks about all the spammers, though. Ack!

Peaches D. Ledwidge said...

So far, I haven't had a lot of issues with spammers.

Congrats on getting 600 followers.

alexia said...

Yay for Twitter! I just found you :) And yes, spammers should be shot.

Carol Kilgore said...

Spammers are horrible to deal with. I wish there was a way to block all of them.

LD Masterson said...

You're giving me Twitter courage. (Or not. What if I don't get any followers? Horrors!)

Looks like you've picked up more spammers, although there might be a few legitimate ones in the batch, which is worse if you have to go to the site to find out.

Should I tell you what happened when I was trying to find the website for Dick's Sporting Goods and Googled just the beginning of the name? Hint: don't go there.
