Celebrate: Friday and Freebies

After last week's spam troubles,  I closed sign-ups to the Celebrate linky.  Because the sign-up window isn't on anyone's page, no one can sign-up at the moment.  No one EXCEPT THE SPAMMER!  Every day 15-30 new dirty links appear, and I have to delete them. It must be some kind of a spam-bot that has the link cached and circumvents the "closed" order with Simply Linked. 

Since closing the sign-up didn't work, I'll re-open it soon, and I'll just have to get used to going several times a day to the master list and deleting things.

The rest of my week has been equally annoying and unsuccessful, so my celebration today is TGIF! And here's hoping next week is better. :)

Again, the last true Celebrate link is #57 "Carole Ann Carr." If there are links after that - they are fake names and will take you to places you don't want to go.

Celebrate: Spam a LOT & Freebies

This week I'm celebrating learning to swim with the fishes on Twitter.  I'm not as intimidated as I was last week.  After all, there's no real reason to worry about posting something dumb or messing up a re-tweet.  It's not brain surgery.  Everyone will live through it.  And I've gotten over 600 followers so far.  Yay me!

On the bad side, I've gotten a lot of followers for the Celebrate Hop this week, too -- but not real followers.  They're horrible spammers who've been posting 30-50 links a day in the Linky.  All to dirty pages in Vietnam and Indonesia. I have to go every day to the master Linky list and delete them -- but more pop up the following day.

BEWARE - The last true Celebrate link is #57 "Carole Ann Carr." If there are links after that - they are fake names and will take you to places you don't want to go.  Sorry about this.  There's no way to block who signs up on the Linky.  I just have to keep deleting and hope they eventually get tired of posting. 

Ever have a problem with Spammers on your blog or email?  It should really be a punishable crime, right?

Celebrate: Tweet Tweet & Lots of Freebies

I don't like to follow the herd or join fads.  I didn't get a mobile phone (which first came out in '92) or a laptop (came out in the '80s) until about 2005 and didn't go on Facebook until about 2 years ago.  I only joined up when I realized these things were definitely not fads and perhaps the "herd" knew what it was doing after all.

So at long last, I've made it onto Twitter.

At the moment I'm basically dazed and confused by the site, but gamely trying to learn.  I'm also very surprised by how many creeps are over there.  People you don't know will "follow" you and when you look at their page, you find vulgar pictures, or people trying to sell you something, or someone who just seems weird.

But I'm celebrating that I'm keep trying new things in my pursuit of marketing and  literary success. (Coz, ya know, it's not about how well you write, but how well you sell what you write...)

I was upset to learn Amazon-Kindle won't do bank transfers to Egypt.  Bulgaria and Latvia are on their list, but Egypt?  Uh-uh.  No way to pub with them.  Luckily my super-wonderful CP, Kate Larkindale at Fiction + Film, did me a HUGE favor and I was able to publish on Smashwords.  Smashwords offers books in epub, Kindle mobi, PDF, HTML, and a bunch of other versions.
