Celebrate the Small Things: No Reception

I've had a real hard time getting on the net this week, even though I have TWO subscriptions to my local internet server.  All accounts have a download limit of 2 Giga per month (which I go through in a week).  So then my service speed drops to the minimum, usually 70 kbps, but this week it's dropped to 30 kbps.  Ack!!  It takes forever to open pages and sites -- if they open at all.  (Facebook is persnickety and rarely opens when the speed is this low.)

I might as well be trying to access the internet
with these handy dandy antennae:

And maybe the blue wig would help too...

This week I'm celebrating when sites and blogs actually download -- Yippie!!! -- and let me comment to and communicate with my web buddies.  I love you guys and love reading your blogs. You always make me smile or applaud you accomplishments.  I may be slow in responding this week, but it's not for lack of trying -- I'll get there eventually.

What do you do if you don't have internet access? Read a book, watch TV, or cry on your keyboard?

This post is part of VikLit's blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things. To be part of this blog hop, all you have to do is follow the link and put your name on the Mr.Linky list, and then be sure to post every Friday about something you're grateful  for that week.  It can be about writing or family or school or general life.  This is the funnest and easiest blog hop ever!

As many hours as I'm online, I'd suck that up in one day! Glad you're back with us. After all, someone has a cover reveal coming up soon...

When the internet is disagreeable, I read a book, or handwrite scenes (or maybe catch up housework - only as a last resort). Good luck with connectivity. It's not always on good behavior.

Sometimes I long for that, just for the excuse to read a book instead of a glaring screen. :) But it would also do my mut in :( X

I get so frustrated when the internet goes down. But I can certainly be more productive when it happens.... I hope your speed comes back soon because I miss you when you go AWOL online.

When I don't have Internet access I watch waaaaay to much TV. Have a terrific weekend.

When I lose internet access, I sit and stare fixedly at my computer screen waiting for a glimmer of hope. After about two days I blink, resign myself to the fact the apocalypse has come, and start boarding up the windows to fight off the inevitable zombies that will break down my door and eat my brain. Or I read a book. It's either or for me. :PPPP

I do everything on your list - lol! I've had computer problems for almost three weeks now. It's no fun at all.

I don't know how anyone managed to live before the internet. I really struggle when ours is down. Thankfully ours seems to have only brief hissy fits now ones or twice a day that last only a few seconds. I would rather that than it playing up for days. I hope I haven't just jinxed myself lol.
Here's hoping yours is back up to speed soon and that you have a great weekend.

I hate when my internet goes down; it's like torture. Plus, it puts me behind in my visiting!

I whine at the husband unit. If I'm writing, it's a flurry of productivity.

I've slow in responding to blogs due to an over workload, but I hope to get around to everyone soon. Glad you're internet is working that's the pits when it kicks out.

Don't we feel lost without the internet? What did we used to do with all our time before its existence? Reading a good book seems like a good option to me, which is what I would normally be doing right now rather than blogging, but I'm a bit behind so sitting in bed catching up! Have a great weekend.

One moment please.....your blog site took ages to load up. Actually, I understand all about that. In fact, Lexa, if I could have faster internet, a new computer, I might actually get to posts to leave my award winning comments, much sooner.

When I can't "surf" the web, I get "waves" of panic. I do something weird like go outside.

A good weekend to you, Lexa and yes, you are going to reveal something. Hope that sounded right.

Press "Publish" and hope for the best......

I call the company or use the hotspot on my phone. If those aren't options, I'll tackle my to-do list.

So sorry you have been having problems getting on the internet! How frustrating! But I like that you turned it around and focused on the positive. :) Hope the connection will be speedy!

Heather R. Holden said...

Oh, that really sucks about your internet connection! My old server allowed just 5GB a month, and it was always so hard to not go over that limit. Can't imagine how difficult it must be to have an account with only 2GB!

Cut off from the internet? I would definitely collapse across my keyboard, sobbing.
I barely survived my poor data connection in Wales and London on my supposedly "global" Droid phone. I had to learn to enjoy my vacation without uploading every second of it to Facebook, LOL!

It'd be reading a book! TV is pretty much just for the weekends when the husband is home. Then we all veg out in front of it. =/

I'd write. I'd work on my WIP. I'd bake cookies. I probably shouldn't do the latter.

Glad you're back! When I can't get online, I tend to read or write long-hand. Have a good weekend! :)

Kelly Hashway said...

I hate feeling disconnected like this. I'll read, but after a while I need to know what's going on online! lol

Michelle Wallace said...

Reading for me - most definitely!
As it is, I've fallen waaaaaay behind with my reading, so maybe my Internet needs to go down for a while... *joking*

So sorry about all those technical problems! They are so frustrating.Hope your weekend is fun.,

I saw your blue wig and antennas on farcebook yesterday! I thought, "That's perfect! Why didn't I think of that?" I did suggest to @Gary, the almost famous friend of Penny the truly famous superstar, that we start using a string with cans at each end. That would be an improvement over my computer communication system this month.

Robin said...

That is horribly frustrating. The upside: you can spend more time writing since the Internet is so darn slow!

VikLit said...

Well sorry about the technical problems but glad you made it online ;)

Love this post! For me, when I realize our home connection has failed, there's always this moment of panic, followed by anger, followed by frustration, followed by acceptance :) I usually take it to mean I should stop avoiding the laundry that needs to be folded :)

Jocelyn Rish said...

My internet is randomly stops working a few times a week for about an hour at a time (usually when I need it most), and I always feel lost without it. It definitely shows that it's a type of addiction, but since it's something so practical too, it's not like I can just quit cold turkey. Plus, I'd miss everybody!

No Internet access is always a good excuse to crack open that book I should be reading!

Sherry Ellis said...

It's a major bummer not having internet access! I read a book, practice my instruments, or go outside when that happens.

Chancelet said...

Love the antennae! and the blue hair. :) Sorry about the internet speed - that would drive me nuts. Without internet, if there's sun, I think I'd spend more time basking in it and writing! TV, well, finding time to watch has not been a problem for me. Reading would be harder, since mostly I use the Kindle app on my laptop - don't think that works without internet hookup.

May your speed picks up to turbo very soon. Writer’s Mark

having limited internet stinks!!
cute pic & analogy! it gives me an idea for halloween...
hope you are better connected soon!!

Nas said...

Hi Lexa! I feel as if my limbs are missing if my internet goes to limited! So I subscribe to very expensive mobile net then! And use net on my mobile phone for a few days till the new month!

S.A. Larsenッ said...

Same here, Lexa! Love our cyber visits. Glad to hear you're back on.

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

antennae work, you know. Especially purple ones.
When my internet goes down, I actually do a lot of writing! No distractions!

Annie Neugebauer said...

Oh, bummer! Whenever I'm without internet I try to take advantage of the forced exile to be extra productive. It's amazing how much you can get done without that distraction option. ^_^

Christine Rains said...

The blue hair always helps! :) Glad to hear you're back on. Which provider do you use? We have our internet through our cable company. There are a few providers I know in Bloomington that we've used over the years that have been more than disappointing. When I don't have a connection, I read or write. It keeps me from surfing the net! :)

Yolanda Renée said...

Glad to see your getting around. My power was out for awhile and I know the desperation for keeping up. Don't know why but my service is giving me headaches too!

Good luck and thanks for visiting!

T.F. Walsh said...

Good to hear you have fast internet again:) Love the blue wig:)

LD Masterson said...

It's a catch 22 that some of the items on a blog (animation, graphics, etc.) making it slower to load. When my Internet is misbehaving, I usually look around at the backlog of housework I've been ignoring. I'm not saying I do any housework, I just notice it.

Georgina Morales said...

I hate to be at the mercy of slow internet. It makes me murderous >:( Hope those antennae and wig bring the juice back up enough so you won't become a serial killer. :)

Ruth Schiffmann said...

A bad internet connection can ruin my day until I realize the freedom of not "having" to check in online. The end result is usually more writing - and that's good.

Cherie Reich said...

I feel your pain. We have internet like that, and with 3-4 people trying to get online at one time, it can be very difficult. That's why I get online more at work than I do at home. It's just too frustrating.

Maynard Morrissey said...

No Internet? Crying on my keyboard, sobbing, sniveling, praying to the Internet god ;)

Rawknrobyn.blogspot.com said...

I cry on my keyboard, then bang my head against the wall, then refrain from taking a sledge hammer to my CPU. It's very frustrating! Sorry. I'm glad you've been able to celebrate successful downloads, and I'm extra honored that you made a trip over to my place. I hope your computer starts treating you better and picking up the pace.

Be well, Lexa.

I have a place in the country where I go and the Internet sucks there. Only downside of traveling there.

Oh man, I feel your pain. Honestly I'd rather have no internet than slow internet. Too frustrating. I have no trouble at all walking away from all of it and going on a bike ride or weeding my garden. Except if something really important is happening!
