Maybe it's just me,
but sometimes the publishing biz reminds me of a bull,
and I'm a matador on a bad day.
I may climb to my feet slowly while rubbing parts of my anatomy,
but I eventually get back up and do it all again.
Determination
or
Just plum crazy?!
(This is not an endorsement of bull-fighting.)

Determination, Lexa, definitely! We get knocked down but we somehow find the strength to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and continue on our journey.

Determination I think, with just a little perseverance thrown in for good measure. I love the analogy.
I'd like to think it's determination - although some days it does feel like pure craziness.
There's probably a little craziness mixed in there--creative types can never be fully sane, after all!--but I think it's safe to say that it's mostly determination. ;)
We writers are a crazy bunch. But we know the rewards of never giving up.
June 2013 IWSG Co-host
The writing part is determination.
The bull fighting is crazy. (And I'm always pulling for the bull.)
Huh. I think in my experience, it's been like RIDING a bull -- or a bucking bronco that keeps throwing me off. But yes, I keep getting up, rubbing my injured parts, and getting back on.
Great analogy. And I know what you mean.
Hahaha I love the disclaimer about bull fighting at the end. Perfect analogy.
Definitely determination. Think of how many novels wouldn't have got published if their writers hadn't got back up and brushed themselves off.
Ouch. He's nuts. Totally. But that probably makes me nuts too. =)
Love your analogy! I think it's a bit of both. Determined to win, at writing, crazy because we think we can.
Great analogy, unfortunately LOL. I'm glad you keep getting back up, I hope we can all do that. :)
Lol. Keep fighting the good fight, girl.
Yikes, that had to hurt! But he's back at it- I hope to always keep that attitude, too.
Wonderful analogy! Never quite thought of it this way but makes sense. I know sometimes a rejection totally knocks me off my feet. I get blocked or depressed which means... (after reading your post) that I'm letting it trample me over and over again until I stand up and fight/write. :) Thanks, Lexa!
I'd put it down as a crazy level of determination and that's exactly what it takes to keep going.
I think we all feel this way sometimes. And as to determination or craziness... I'd say a healthy dose of both goes a long way! ;)
I think we writers are determined AND plumb crazy!! ;)
Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines
We writers are both determined as well as crazy.
Determination, of course!
Though a little crazy doesn't hurt, either :D
Maybe a bit of both, but that's okay! :)
I've often compared what we do to coal mining, with coal mining being easier. However, I think you might have a better comparison. :-)
An apt analogy. Sometimes I feel more like the rodeo clown.

Moody Writing
Mmm... a combination! For sure.

Great pictures. We went to a bull fight once. I felt sorry for the bulls.
I think it takes determination with a touch of craziness to succeed in most everything.
Crazy determination. We writers haz it! ;)
Yup. We're all crazy matadors, just waiting to be gored one more time.
I almost think it helps to be a little crazy in this field sometime.
Great analogy! I can definitely see the connection. :)

Good grief, Lexa! What a load of bull! :) And speaking of bull, "IWSG", apparently doesn't mean, "I Was Seeking Gary". I'm going for a cry now.....
Gary :)
I agree with M.J.! You've eloquently expressed how so many of us feel! Great photos too!
Julie
Same here. But, I'm getting tired of getting beat up.
:) A little of both?
Its a fine line we walk between brevity and stupidity, lol. Hind-sight is the only way to determine which was which.
.......dhole
I agree with Suze. I think it's a little (or a lot) of both.
Keep fighting, Lexa.

Determination will make us do the craziest things sometimes...hehe. Awesome post and analogy.
LOL... no kidding! We're all ballsy gluttons for punishment. lol
Pig-headed, determined, plum crazy, loco, stubborn, and tenacious. It's all the same when I look in the mirror. :D
Me crazy? Oh, you betcha! :) Great analogy, Lex.
My father watched a bullfight once. He said it was pathetic. Poor animal was half dead already and the matador just butchered it in front of him.
That looks painful for both parties, but I understand the analogy.
Yes! True. We have to have bull hides to survive too.
Nas
Yup, we're all crazy.
Well, I don't know anything about the publishing biz, but the writing part is down right crazy.
It is a crazy business, that's for sure, but I can't imagine doing anything else :)
Here to not getting gored!
lol I think its a little bit of both for sure!
I'm going with it's determination.
Great analogy! Today's been one of those days for me. Sigh.
Happy Weekend :)
Determination with a dash of crazy :)
I always cheer for the bull!
I have no idea but it doesn't sound very pleasant to me :)
Both I guess. As a writer you need determination, and a bit of craziness to follow your dream, dream up of impossible worlds, and see your dreams through. Might be tossed around a bit but at the end of the day, it makes us happy. Yeah publishing biz isn't easy, determination is the key! :)
Happy Sunday!
I dig your little disclaimer at the end, LOL. :-)
Yeah, it's a rough business, this putting out love-babies out there into the world and hoping they'll be adored as much as we adore them. And no, I don't think you have to be crazy to do it...but it probably helps. ;-)
Some Dark Romantic
Some days it's even worse and I can't find my red cape.
Yes, sometimes I feel like the matador and other times, the gored bull.
