Celebrate: Revising & Giveaways!

This week I'm celebrating:
1)  I'm happy to report that I finished all my commitments to other authors -- critiques were done, books were read, reviews were posted. Woohoo!!
2)  I've buried myself inside my Revision Cave and my novel is actually getting revised! 'Bout friggin' time!

How do you balance commitments to others and your own work? Do you have to shut yourself away from the world from time to time?

Wishing Everyone a
Happy Halloween!

Celebrate: Flailing, Snow on Cinders & Giveaways!

This week I'm celebrating:
1)  Flailing wildly, but not going under!
2)  I seem to have over-estimated what I could get done in a 2 week period.  Promises to critique someone's novella, read & review 2 ARCs before the books are released (this weekend!), and keep up with crits for my CP group is taking longer than I thought. Plus I had to write a craft newsletter for a writing site ... but hmm ... isn't there something I'm forgetting??  Oh yeah -- revise my novel!!  Well, that's not happening, but at least I'm managing to do everything I promised for everyone.
3) My hubby's coming home after a long trip.  The house is a complete disaster, and ya know what?  It's gonna stay that way for a while ... a long while.

Wish me luck as I flail my way through crits and reviews and maybe some revising. :)

Anyone else out there flailing?  Or have you got it all under control?

Celebrate: Stephen Tremp ~ Salem's Daughters & Giveaways

ANCIENT TIME TRAVELING CURSES

Thank you Lexa for hosting me on my Salem’s Daughters Blog Tour. You live in Egypt and I thought what better place to post on ancient curses than L.X. Cain's blog.

Curse of the Pharaohs: In Egypt, the Curse of the Pharaohs refers to an alleged curse to be cast upon any person who disturbs the mummy of an Ancient Egyptian person, especially a pharaoh. Time is not a hindrance or obstacle. This curse, which does not differentiate between thieves (past) and archaeologists (future), allegedly can cause bad luck, illness or death.

In Salem's Daughters I needed a similar idea when time would not interfere or restrict something evil that just won’t go away. The year is 1705 and the setting is the countryside between Boston and Salem, Massachusetts.

Thirty-nine young witches are flushed from their coven and chased by a drunken riotous mob. All but thirteen are cut down. In order to escape the blood-thirsty mob, the survivors perform an extremely difficult magical maneuver that would be deadly if they got it wrong. They closed their eyes, exhaled the air in their lungs, and left their bodies through their mouths, the only place a soul can escape. They entered six-month-old cats in the first of their nine lives while kicking out the souls of the felines.

Fast forward to today. When Bob and Debbie Stevens open their bed and breakfast called Murcat Manor they find thirteen baby kittens who they adopt, thinking they can befriend the guests.

Now in the sixth of nine lives, the malevolent felines have had five previous lives spanning four centuries of deviltry and murdering practice to draw on. With their vast experience, now enhanced with the use of modern technology, the witches devise cagey ways to keep killing, including leaving evidence at the scene for detectives to believe Bob and Debbie are the perpetrators.

Bad kitties!

Curses: An evil or misfortune to befall someone or something have been around since mankind has been able to speak words. Words have the power to bless and to curse, depending on the level of authority of the person speaking them and how receptive or vulnerable the recipient is.

There are no shortage of books using curses. They can be spoken (Hermione Granger). They can be thought (Professor Snape). They can lie dormant for eons then come to life (Pharaoh's Curse). Fiction writers across multiple genres use curses in their books, and much of their inspiration comes from everyday life and history.

Question: Do you believe in curses like the Pharaoh’s curse?

Short Blurb: A four hundred year old evil is unleashed when the daughters of those killed during the Salem Witch Trials find a new generation of people to murder at a popular modern-day bed and breakfast.

Stephen Tremp writes Speculative Fiction and embraces science and the supernatural to help explain the universe, our place in it, and write one of a kind thrillers. You can read a full synopsis and download Salem’s Daughters by Clicking Here

Thanks, Stephen!  I had the pleasure of reading Salem's Daughters, and I think Stephen has a real future in horror writing! ~ Lexa

Celebrate the Small Things

This week I'm celebrating:
1)  I can comment on WordPress blogs again!  For almost a week, Wordpress refused to let me comment, refused to recognize my acct, and wouldn't let me open a new acct. But yesterday all of a sudden, it recognized me again. I have no idea why it changed.  Must be internet fairies sprinkling magic dust over my net connections ...
2)  I really enjoyed the Insecure Writers Support Group hop on Wednesday.  It's so good to hear about other writers who're experiencing the same doubts and fears I am. IWSG always makes me feel better.  :)
3)  I'm glad to see there've been a bunch of people entering my October Frights hop giveaway!  The giveaway runs through Sunday, so there's still time to enter. If you want a chance to win my novel and 3 short stories, just click on the link at the top and enter the rafflecopter!

Are you participating in the IWSG hop?  What's your favorite part of it?  Venting about your worries?  Reading about others' insecurities?  Getting or giving advice?

IWSG: Damned Technology!

GIVEAWAY!
10 eBook Bundles of all 4 of my books to 10 lucky winners!
Go to my blog post here:
--> October Frights Blog Hop <--

Insecure Writers Support Group

I almost didn't post for IWSG today because I spent 3 hours (for the 2nd time this week) trying to fix a problem with WordPress.  I can't post on any WordPress blogs.
1) It won't accept my email and password.
2) It won't allow me to use FB, Google, or Twitter to sign in and post a comment.
3) When I try to recover my password, it tells me my acct email is invalid.
4) When I tried to set up a new acct with that same email, and it tells me the email is already being used. (YES, BY ME!!)
5) So I tried to use a different email to set up a new acct, but the activate link sent to the email won't work.
6) Yes, I deleted my browser history and cookies. Nothing changed. Can't use the old acct, can't get a new acct.
7) I can't complain in the forums because you need to be logged in to do that.
8) WordPress has an email for Customer Support, but they admit they'll only answer the emails of PAID users.

Several years ago I had a similar problem being unable to comment with Explorer

So I downloaded Foxfire and it worked great!  Until it got a pop-up spam virus that opened up 3 advertising pages for every 1 blog I went to.

OK, on to Google Chrome and Opera. (Didn't take any chances -- downloaded 2 new browsers!)  My Google Chrome works okay.  Until now, with stupid WordPress.

What about all the other things that can go wrong?

Facebook crashed several times last week.  Twitter sometimes gives you the "Heavy traffic - please try back later" message.

Blogger once decided it detected "suspicious activity" on my blog -- and they de-activated it! And they didn't inform me, so I had worried friends emailing me wanting to know why I'd deleted my blog and if I was okay.  I know people whose entire blogs have been EATEN by blogger, never to be seen again...

PC doc files get corrupted and won't save (usually after you've done all your important edits on them).  Hard drives crash.  PCs, laptops, tablets, and Kindles inexplicably stop working and have to go to the Techie Hospital.  Meanwhile, you twiddle your thumbs and watch TV and pray it doesn't take too long or cost too much.

Writing, revising, querying, publishing, and promoting are hard enough, but sometimes it seems like technology is OUT TO GET YOU!

What about you?  Any horror stories from the technology battlefield?

This is a post for the Insecure Writer's Support Group, the brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh. It exists so the community of blogging writers can share and support each other, blog-hopping to cheerlead and commiserate. To find out more, visit: Insecure Writer's Support Group. Plus, check out the IWSG Website for lots of helpful info and links.
