Celebrate: Laughing Minions & Freebies

Why am I celebrating Laughing Minions?
Because they're so cute!!
I don't need a better reason than that. ;)

I got lots of things done this week!

1)  I made lentil soup, rice, mousaka, chicken noodle casserole, and ... ?  No, I guess that was it.  It just felt like a lot more.  This should last us a few days while I write and do "me" stuff.
2)  I finished revising Ch 5, posted it in my group, and one CP has already made amazingly helpful suggestions!
3)  I wrote Ch 6 in one day! WOW! Yes, it's only 1600 words and still needs lots of revision -- but that's really, really good for me. Snails and turtles regularly pass me on freeways...

Do you cook day-by-day or cook a big amount so it lasts?  What's the average word length of your chapters?

Fantastic job writing a chapter in one day! Love the lentil soup idea. I can almost smell it from here. And YAY for the CP's positive suggestions.

Minions are my VERY favorites! I watch the short clips at You Tube.(smile)

I enjoy cooking mostly on Fridays - lots of stuff to last the weekend and possibly the coming week. I had a huge ham bone - pintos are ready! Hush puppies and slaw... there's the weekend. Smart thing cooking ahead - well done, Lexa!

Congratulations on your quick writing of chapter 5!

I do love the Minions too.. so cute. Did you ever watch the small banana snippet of them? Very funny.

Oh can you come to my place and cook, the dishes all sounds divine. I try to cook as little as possible so I'll make big batches to last a few days. This weekend I'm making Lamb Shepherd's Pie for Australia Day:)

Congrats on finishing chp 6... so can't wait to read it. I'm actually trying to reduce the sizes of my chps to about 1500-2500 each, give or take.

I am so jealous! I can't cook at all. And yes, I luv the minions, too. Enjoy the weekend.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Wow, that is a lot of cooking. We just cook one at a time.
Congratulations on nailing a chapter in one day. How long are mine? Well, my books average 75,000 words and sixteen chapters. Sorry, too early for math...

I'm awful for not writing todays post after linking up, but it's not a post one can pre-write and schedule really is it? I forgot all about it yesterday and today my head's pounding. I have to remember next week.

Love those Minions :)

Congrats on getting chap. 5 completed and sent to your cp! I just checked, and my chap. are around 1300 words in my wip. I like short chapters for YA. I cook almost every night. If there's leftovers, we eat them a couple of days later.

Cathrina Constantine said...

Oh, I forgot to say I love those minions!!!

Mere Joyce said...

Congrats on the chapter feedback, and the other chapter's completion!

Ava Quinn said...

Woo hoo! I'm like you, a full chapter in a day is major cause for celebration! And yay for helpful feedback!! Great celebrations--and feebies--this week, Lexa!

My husband is prone to cooking a large amount and variety of things that will last several days. He especially does this when he's going away on a long business trip.

Me, I cook as little as I need to in order to feed everyone. ;)

Unknown said...

wow I love lentil soup! I don't cook a ton, I'll make cheese sandwiches or pasta, or whatever my vegetarian heart has the patience to make, ha. But I love to cook a big vat of vegetable soup, and that can last for like a week :)

Anonymous said...

Congrats on getting that chapter done in a day! Snails and turtles usually pass me by too! LOL. My chapters range anywhere from 1600-2200.

Suzanne Furness said...

Those Minions make me smile too! Only saw the movies over Christmas so their cuteness is still fairly new to me!

Congrats on finishing a chapter in a day, that seems good going to me.

Julia Thorley said...

Great celebrations today. Am I the only person in the world who hasn't seen 'Despicable Me'? I haven't seen 'Frozen' either. My catering is chaotic, because I hate cooking. I eat a lot of toast and many, many yogurts.

Tyrean Martinson said...

Way to go with your cooking and writing!!! I write chapters that vary between 700 and 2400 words, with the shorter ones coming at the front and end of the book . . . not sure why exactly, but it just seems to go that way. I probably should study the phenomenon . . . maybe.

Love the minions!

Birgit said...

Oh those minions...they do make me laugh. I do both regarding cooking. I try to make something to last for a few days and then i go day by day. You are doing great in your writing!

Loni Townsend said...

Woot! Finishing a chapter in one day is great! Good job!

Unknown said...

Look at all that awesomeness! Well done, Lexa! You're really pounding out that MS :)

I would say my chapters usually range from 1000-1500 words, but there is the occasional 3000 chapter (at least in the JWIP). I like my chapters short, because it feels like I've accomplished more (as a reader) when I get to chapter 10 quickly.

Anonymous said...

Love the minions! Wow, that's a lot of cooking. I've never tried cooking in advance like that. I guess I'm an every day cooker. Congrats on getting all that writing done! My chapters tend to be long, upwards of 3,000 words, and the snails and turtles would beat me, too. Have a great weekend!

Natalie Aguirre said...

Sounds like you got a lot of writing done. I do a combination of cooking things we can eat for more than one day and daily cooking. I'm really enjoying trying new recipes lately.

L.G. Keltner said...

Reading about the food you made has left me hungry! Yum! I'm glad you had such a productive week!

Laura Clipson said...

Congrats on getting so much done :) I cook day by day (though not every day, still getting into the rhythm of living in a house without parents!)

messymimi said...

There are big boys here. It doesn't matter how much i cook, it can't last! Congratulations on all the writing work you are getting done!

Beverly Stowe McClure said...

Congratulations on a successful writing week and for cooking enough to last while you write some more. It's hard to cook for one, so I buy a lot of meals at the deli. Maybe I'm just lazy. :)
Have a lovely weekend.

stephen Hayes said...

Glad to hear your writing is going well. Gotta love those minions. Just the sight of them makes me laugh.

Georgina Morales said...

Minions are just awesome, lovable creatures. I wish I had some!

Congrats on moving forward with you writing. I'm a slow writer, too, so I totally get your excitement about 1600 words in one day. Yoohoo!

MunirGhiasuddin said...

I cook four times a week and some times we have left overs and other times we grab some thing from the fast food places.
Wow an entire chapter? Awesome !

JeffO said...

I don't know if I can say there's an 'average' length to my chapters--I get some that are 1500 and others that are 2x that long--great job on the WIP, keep it up!

And we're usually day-by-day cookers, for the record.

J.S. Andersen said...

I notice nobody is replying to what I have posted. But it makes sense because I hardly post back. I'm now making a goal to post on my friends blogs once a week. Will I keep up with it? We'll have to see but I will try. Have a great weekend. :) And I like you goals and commitments. It's very motivating. :)

You're right, they're cute.

I cook day to day until my husband can't stand my pathetic expression any further and takes over. Nobody can do a sad cow face like me!

Anonymous said...

Congrats! I'm not sure of my average word count, but I'm a slow writer, too. I usually only knock out 5 pages a day, 10 if I'm on a roll. But I edit as I go and analyze over every word . . . I guess it's the English teacher in me. But it all adds up to one novel being published a year, so I guess it's okay :-)

Minions are super cute.

Awesome job getting chapter 5 and 6 written.

I keep wanting to make a lot of food in one day because it will make the rest of the week easier. It still hasn't happened, but happy for you that you got so much done. :)

Who wouldn't love minions? I can't wait until their movie comes out. I pray that a job opens up for your husband soon.

Since you like things Egyptian, come take a look at the trailer for my historical fantasy, DEATH IN THE HOUSE OF LIFE:

Wow Lexa, great job on finishing your chapters! To be honest, I've never actually counted the length of my chapters. If I had to fathom I guess, I'd say about 1,300-1,600.

The food sounds delicious; it's too bad that I can't really cook yet without supervision. I do little things though. I did get myself a slow cooker, so I'm going to experiment with some recipes that can stay for most of the day and I can't ruin. LOL.

As usual, thanks for hosting the blog hop and for all the Friday Freebies you give us. Love ya!! Eva

Sherry Ellis said...

Sounds like you made some good meals, and got lots of writing done. A productive week!

Stephanie Faris said...

I cook day by day. And I'm weird about leftovers. Most of the time I put them in the fridge, but I'm not in the mood to eat the food right after I've just eaten it. Unless it's something I LOVE like tacos or pizza. I'll eat leftovers all day of that stuff.

Tonja Drecker said...

That's a lot of cooking...sounds yummy. I cook from day to day. My family's kind of spoiled in that way, and they fuss whenever I slap leftovers on the table (OMG -Leftovers!!! *rolls eyes*) Yay to getting that chapter written and one revised. Sounds like you're moving along!

Anonymous said...

Yay for getting those chapters done. I don't cook, but I know how to microwave and order food.

Anonymous said...

A chapter a day keeps the doctor away, right? My chapter lengths vary, and I usually don't split the MS into chapters until it's time to submit to a publisher. I wrote a novel once where every chapter was a about a thousand words -- flash-sized. That was a good exercise.

kimlajevardi.com said...

I'm not much of a cook, so I tend toward one meal on the off days where I actually turn the stove on. ;) Yay for writing a chapter in one day. I'm with you - I'm slow and 1600 words in a day would be awesome for me. I can't wait to read Chapter 5. I'm going to attack it later this afternoon, so I can get to six.

Patsy said...

I don't 'get' these minions. Are they on TV or something? (Have I just revealed how totally out of touch I am with the rest of the world?)

My chapters are usually around 3,000 words. I don't plan them to be, they just usually work out that way.

Unknown said...

YAY, HOORAY for your writing! I'm amazed that you have time for cooking on top of that - when I write I'm usually in a world of chaos and forget basic things all together, like eating! It's 4pm before I know it and I still haven't had breakfast! I wish I was more organized and I'm sure the hubs wishes I would find a way to cook and write! (Function in any way and write would be nice!!) :P

Kate Larkindale said...

Good for you doing so much writing and cooking! I always try to cook enough that I won't have to cook again the next day, but with 3 boys in the house (and yes, I'm counting my partner in that number), if there's anything leftover at the end of dinner, it gets eaten.

Michelle Wallace said...

Wow, lots of freebies... thanks!
And congrats on the hosting gig for Celebrate The Small Things, as well as the Chapter 6 coup! Yay!

Lentil soup AND mousaka? You're on a roll, Lexa. So glad you've kept the Friday Celebration going. When I'm back up to speed, I'll hop on board again. I loved those Friday posts.

Julie Flanders said...

The minions can never be celebrated enough. Congrats on your writing, you're totally kicking butt! Hope you had a great weekend. :)

Carol Kilgore said...

I cook day by day, but sometimes I make enough of something for more than one meal.

Congrats on the speed writing!

Al Diaz said...

Plenty of giveaways here!
The minions laughter always make me laugh. I wish that would happen with my dwarves' laughter!
Funny. I also had lentils soup last week.

TBM said...

Lots of great giveaways. Thanks for the heads up. Funny, I made lentil soup last night. Good luck with the rest of the book. Sounds like you are in a groove.

Kelley said...

I'm so hungry, now! Go you!

Catherine Stine said...

Yay, a chapter in a day. I hope to write a chapter today since my class that I teach got canceled due to snow!

Unknown said...

Thanks for sharing the giveaways, Lexa! I hope you had a splendid January while I was gone.
Congrats on getting those chapters done and I wish you the best of luck with your remaining ones!
1600 words is a lot! I know because my first children's book is 1400 words and this took me a great deal of time to work on and edit!
Don't ever think any amount of words is too small. We all dance to a different beat but the outcome always radiates from our passion.

Leandra Wallace said...

I've been snailing through revisions the last couple of days. I'm determined tonight to get past the same three paragraphs I've been messing with! Also, you...uh, might want to stop by my blog, b/c your book's acting out. ;)

Again, thanks for the giveaways you list.

I LOVE minions. But I want the sound to go with them. Cracks me up.

A chapter in one day? Awesome.

Jocelyn Rish said...

The laughing minions are so adorable!! But my favorite is the one who goes 'Wha?!?" I annoy everyone by mimicking him all the time. :-)

Congrats on getting so much done!
