Celebrate: Gears of Brass & Freebies

This week I'm celebrating:
1) Being happy!  Getting rid of stressful things can be so liberating!
2) I had a great Chinese food dinner with a friend.  Yum!
3) Outlining my new WIP went faster than I expected, and I've already written the first chapter.  Yippie!

Do you know more people who're writing for the market or more who're writing just for themselves?

Stress reduction is always good! Chinese and no stress - even better. Congrats on finishing the first chapter. As I travel around I find it about 50/50 in writing for market or writing for self.
Have a great weekend Lexa!

I'm all for reducing stress! Glad you are feeling happy and well done on the writing front.

That stress thing can be a real killer. Good to let it go. And I'm all in for Chinese food.

Chinese food and no stress - great combination!

Yum. I love Chinese food! And I don't know about anyone else but I write what moves me, not what the market says might move someone else.

Stress is a motivator but also a killer. I have burned my stomach up over too many things. I try my best to ignore the things I can not change now and walk away from situations that are unpleasant (if possible). Having a glass of fine wine at night helps.

Yay for Gears of Brass! And yay for head-bopping kitties!

I agree with you Lexa that getting rid of stressful things is very liberating.

Ha -- that cat is cracking me up. Yes, getting rid of something that's causing you stress is the best feeling ever.

Happy writing -- I love thrillers so be sure to let me know when yours is out!

I've had a bit of a rough week, emotionally and health-wise. But this weekend I want to celebrate my daughter's role in the high school fall play -- the biggest role she's ever had.

love getting stress out of my life as well! :) and I think I'm noticing a great trend lately with authors writing what's in their heart over the market! Makes me happy!

Thanks for the city kitty, had a nice chuckle!! YAY on writing your 1st chapter!!!

In response to your question: I write to please myself, and then try to find a market. Previously, I wrote three action adventure novels that went nowhere, probably because they don't represent the unabashedly sentimental guy I am, so now I don't chase the market.

Good for you for lowering your stress levels! And for having fun with your new WIP.

Chinese and no stress make a wonderful combination! I've seen Gears of Brass everywhere and keep twitching to buy it. Guess I'll have to give in ;)

Great things here. I look forward to reading Gears of Brass.

That little kitten makes me happy. I write for myself. I tried writing for the market once or twice and by the time I am done with the story, the trend is over. What good is that?

Jeff Chapman said...

Congrats on Chapter One done!

It does feel great to shrug off as much stress as possible.

Great post - a bit of everything and a chance to win stuff and grab a freebie. But it will be the baby wearing earphones that I'll carry away with me today. *Smiling! :)

So true about getting rid of stressful things.

I need to get rid of stressors. Dropping out of NaNo has been a big part of it. Just can't make the goal this year.

That kitty made my day. It's not even 6:00 am, and I'm bobbing my head to the beat. LOL

I can't remember when last I had Chinese food.

Congrats on getting work done for your WIP, Lexa!
I actually just blogged about stress and trying to keep up. Last week, I had to take a break and it definitely helped!

Unknown said...

That's a huge loot of freebies!

Stress is a killer-- we all need to emulate that kitten :)

Hi, Lexa. Congrats on the continued writing progress. I'm thinking it's nice to write both for the market and for myself. I can't separate the two. Maybe that's because I've never gotten real $$ for my writing. Were that the case, I'd willingly drop a sense of scruples and write for the market. =)

Al Diaz said...

Hahaha, that kitten is funny. I love Chinese and it is best in good company. Always celebrate happiness! Dragon Hugs!

I know more writers who write for themselves. I also know a lot who are very talented and because they're not published, don't realize how talented they are.

Glad your stress levels are going down, Lexa.

Yay, for writing for yourself! I LOVE the cat. :)
