Celebrate Agent News, International Potluck Blogfest & Freebies

Kate signed with Suzy Townsend of New Leaf Literary last week and wrote about what it was like to get The Call. If you want to know how she did it, or just want to congratulate her, go HERE.
CONGRATS KATE!!! Woohoo!!!
(That means my 8-member CP group now has 3 agented authors. Wow!)

This week I'm celebrating:
1)  Kate getting an agent!  I'm so excited and happy for her!  She really deserves it!
2)  My Aug 12 bloghop is coming up - please sign up below.
3)  Alex Cavanaugh interviews me about my A-Z's Ghost Story theme HERE. Come say hi!
4)  I had toe surgery and am still alive (in pain, but alive).
5)  I've listened to my awesome CPs, backtracked, tossed out a scene in Ch 4, and I'm writing a new scene - which will change the WHOLE PLOT!  Eek!  Yes, it slows my revisions (again), but not being afraid of advice or rewriting makes me feel STRONG!

Do any of you wish you would get The Call from an agent?  How long have you been querying?

HI, Lexa,

Congrats to Kate...That is AWESOME!!!!!

I queried Suzi a month ago and I was rejected. But happy to hear Kate wasn't!

I've been querying about two-three months now. I plan to send out another round tomorrow. It's tough and discouraging, but that is part of a writer's life...

Happy weekend!

Thanks Laura! You know it's all because of your amazing critiques....

Hope your toe feels better soon.

Yay congratulations to Kate. I am doing similar things with my editing at the moment - deleting whole sections and adding new twists! Hope it all goes well.

Congratulations to Kate!
Sorry about the surgery. Keep taking the meds.
Thanks for mentioning Heroes. And doing the interview.
And you can handle the the plot change - believe!

Big congratulations to Kate--it is indeed an awesome feeling to get The Call. And good for you, not just for going along with your crit partners, but for recognizing that they're right. It's not always an easy thing to do. Hope you get back on your feet soon!

Sounds as if you have a lot to celebrate. Hope the toe feels better. enjoy your weekend!

Bad toe; good agent - Celebrate with your friends.
As to your query question: I just shredded a 5-inch binder of "pink slips" from the 90s. Great to be an Indie. with it, I would have never been shortlisted with 8 others by HNS for their award; didn't make the last cut, though.
Oh well - let's still celebrate.

Congrats to Kate! I'm still waiting for that day...

Congrats to Kate. Suzie read a full for me a few years ago and was awesome even in rejection. :P

And it sounds like your current WIP is getting in fighting shape. :)

Congrats to Kate! Can't imagine getting a call, my agent emailed me. Got an agent, lost an agent, looking for new agent...Hope your toe is healing nicely.

Birgit said...

Congratulations to Kate-great feat and wonderful news. that sounds painful regarding your toe but I hope it is healing well and soon you will be walking and running and doing cartwheels:) It seems like a book always goes through revisions and changes but at least you know you are making it better and creating something wonderful. remember so few people actually write or create anything-they let it go as they get older but you haven't!!

Dianne Salerni said...

Congratulations to Kate! Sorry about your toe, but happy you have a new and exciting path for your WIP. I wrote an unexpected chapter last Saturday, taking the story in an unexpected direction. I think the chapter is really good, but it's kind of derailed me. I don't know that should happen next. Haven't added a word to it in a week. :(

I briefly considered the food hop, but what kind of recipe would I post for The Eighth Day? Jax's burnt hamburgers?

Congrats to Kate! What an exciting call! :)

I hope your toes is okay- or at least better than it was!

Awesome that you are excited about the revisions you are making. They sound like they will make a big difference.

ELAdams said...

Glad to hear you're excited about your revisions, and congratulations to Kate! :) I've been querying...too long. Almost four years, and this is my fifth time in the trenches - and I'm published! o.O It really isn't easy. But I'm crossing my fingers this time's the one!

Always great to read good news. Congrats to Kate. Have to hop over and see your interview. I know it's great, but I still have to read it.

Boo to the toe surgery.

I've already got my Potluck dish selected and ready to go on the 12th. Yummy. You'll love it. I just know.

I once hurt my toe and the pain was worse than if I'd been stabbed in the side. I hope your pain goes away soo.

As for agents, I've nearly given up on them. I worked with a respected agent for a year, reworking my novel based on her comments. Then she rejected my story because she said my main character had lost his voice. I was devastated because I hadn't changed a single word spoken by my main character.

Congrats to Kate! I hope you're in less pain now and happy writing.

I've had calls, but I parted ways with all my agents and hope to have a new one in the near future. I'm always actively querying and subbing, though.

I'll check out the link.

YAY for KATE! Sorry about your foot. I had surgery a few years ago, so I totally sympathize. I used to dream about walking without crotches. Ha. You'll mend in no time, I'm sure. Sending positive thoughts.
