Egyptian Humor about Pres Mohamed Mursi

I've had a ghastly week, culminating in major dental work and lots of pain, so I'm not feeling very celebratory.  Bummer.  :(

However, I am happy to celebrate the new freedom Egyptians have to do what Westerners have been doing for years -- making fun of politicians.

My Egyptian husband found this on a friend's Facebook page.  The caption translates to: How Did These Get There????  Meaning, how did Mursi make it into the office of President of Egypt.

Egyptians may have been going a little overboard with their new freedoms of protesting and demonstrating, but their new ability to poke fun at lofty political leaders is a welcome sight.

Have a great week, guys! :-)

This post is part of VikLit's blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things. To be part of this blog hop, all you have to do is follow the link and put your name on the Mr.Linky list, and then be sure to post every Friday about some small (or big) accomplishment for that week.  It can be about writing or family or school or general life.  This is the funnest and easiest blog hop ever!

  2. Oh, I hope your pain eases soon. Dental work is no fun.

We, in America, do not realize the freedoms we have until we look at other countries. It's nice to know that in Egypt the people are gaining some of those freedoms.

  3. LOL! That is a really funny caption. Congrats on your new freedom we've been digging into for centuries over here in the U.S. It's only really fun now with internet memes and LOL cat photos, though. ;)

  4. Awesome! About the freedom Egyptians now have to make fun of political leaders, that is, not your painful dental work. :)

  5. Hope your teeth feel better soon!

We take our freedom so much for granted here, it's good to remember that in other places people can't just say what they think. Not without often fatal repercussions.

  6. Boo for dental pain. If I could come over to your house and make you smoothies and good soft soup, I would. (I make really good soup.)

I like your cartoon--the elephant and the politician have sort of the same look on their faces. :)

  15. Sorry about your dental pain, but that IS a funny picture.
I might have to share this with my class, since we are currently studying the Conatitution and their rights as citizens. It is quite a surprise for them to learn that not everybody in the world enjoys the same rights.

  17. Thinking of all the comedy shows in the UK designed to make fun of politicians, I realise how easy it is to take that freedom for granted.

  18. Ouch on the dental work! I sat in one of those torture chairs for a few hours one day last year . . . it makes me cringe just thinking of it.

I'm glad that Egyptians have the freedom for comedy!

  22. I'd got the impression that Egyptians had less freedom now than previously. I'm glad to hear that isn't the case.

  43. Sorry about the dental work. I just had some Monday too and it wasn't fun. Yes, it's great to celebrate that Egyptians are getting some freedoms that we take too for granted.

  44. This is the great thing about blogger and the internet. In the American media, I keep hearing political pundits and commentators claiming things haven't gotten any better in Egypt. But NOW I know the truth, because I can see from your blog that things ARE improving in the areas of freedom of speech, and freedom of expression. It is a very good political cartoon too. It's funny, and gets it's point across as well.
