Look, Ma, I Can Animate!

Huge thanks to the people who commented on my cover reveal for SOUL CUTTER, both on my blog and the other participating blogs: Alex J. Cavanaugh, PK Hrezo, Father Dragon Writes, Bards and Prophets, The Write Game, Ellie Garratt, Klahanie, Julie Flanders, In High Spirits, and Mainewords.

The winners of the giveaway are:

* drum roll*

e-copy of SOUL CUTTER -- Donna Hole
10-page crit -- Shah Wharton
5-page crit -- Georgina Morales

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I got a little overly excited from playing with photoshop (GIMP 2.6) for my cover reveal and I couldn't resist having a bit more fun.

And look!  My first attempt at making an animation!

OK, it's not very impressive, but maybe I'll get better ... or maybe I should stop playing with photoshop (which is SO much fun!) and go back to actual writing and editing. You know, what writers are supposed to be doing...

Wishing everyone a very
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween Lexa! Animations are tricky, I think it was a great first attempt. The more you fiddle around the better it'll get :)

I've been playing with animations lately too. Way too much fun.

Congrats to the winners!

Personally, I think it's a very cool animation -- I like it! And no apologies needed -- taking other avenues for creative outlet seems to strengthen them all. "Playing" with photoshop is not like playing Angry Birds or something -- you're still creating something with artistic merit.

And your cover-reveal contest was a wonderful idea and went off really well. Congratulations to the winners!

Happy Halloween! (Any holidays like Halloween in Egypt?)

Happy Halloween! Photoshop is most definitely a lot of fun. I always seem to lose hours when I open mine up, heh. Loving your animated gif! I make those all the time now, but I remember my first attempt being very shoddy, so go you! :)

I can get so caught up in things like Photoshop, movie making, and other computer programs. Computer are so amazing. On one side they can make certain things so easy and save us tons of time, but on the other the time we save can get sucked up by all the neat things we can discover and do on the the computer. You did a nice job for a beginner!

You had a wonderful idea for a cover reveal. Excellent strategizing, Lexa. :) Photoshopping is fun. I seem to find other projects to do now that I passed covers off to someone else. Have a great weekend!

Way to go, winners! And I'm liking that animated graphic, Lexa -- nicely done.

I only just saw this post, a few days late, and that is impressive animation -- better than I can do. But I confess to being of the generation that hears "animation' and instantly thinks that we are going to be getting a sheep dropping an anvil on a wolf, or several pigs dynamiting a skyscraper full of frogs, or at the very least a rabbit bonking a duck on the head with a giant mallet he pulls out of nowhere. You kids today, with your animation that pays attention to real physics and attempts to tell a heartwarming and nonviolent story: what's THAT all about? Back in my day, we knew that animation was the only way to teach kids that they could not run straight off a cliff and keep going so long as they didn't look down. That's a lesson you don't want to learn the hard way.
