Friends

I tried hard to come up with something I accomplished this week, something to celebrate, but couldn't come up with a single thing.
*grumble, gripe, growl*

Then I realized all my friends deserve a medal for putting up with me.  They not only listen to my moaning and complaining, but they patiently sympathize and even spend valuable time from their day trying to cheer me up.  No matter what quantity of poop is raining on my head, they unfurl a big umbrella over me and make everything bearable.

Thanks to all my helpful and supportive friends.
You make my life better and brighter.
I don't know what I'd do without you.

Egyptian Currency

Growing up in the U.S., I got used to plain green and black colored currency, the same drab palette for every denomination.  The first time I saw brightly-colored foreign currency, it looked like Monopoly money.  I thought it was kinda goofy.  Although foreign currencies may look a little funny, as long as shops in that country take them and give you stuff -- who cares, right?

While Egyptian money is in a downward spiral against the dollar and the Euro (and every other currency), at least the money itself is still very pretty to look at.

How long will Egyptian currency survive?
Only the Pharaohs know -- and they aren't talking!

What do you think about brightly-colored currency? Is it artistic or does it remind you of Monopoly money?

Titanic Resort, Egypt

Hotels and resorts line Egypt's Red Sea coast.  Along with international chains, like Marriott, Hilton, and Movenpick, there's the Titanic Resort in Hurghada.

Seriously? Who would name their hotel the Titanic?

The only Titanic that most Egyptian people know is the movie "Titanic," which they assume is fictitious.  I kid you not.  I thought whoever owned this resort was so in love with the Dicaprio-Winslet epic that they spent millions making the hotel look like a ship.  But apparently, this is an international chain, too!  The company is based in Las Vegas.  (Why am I not surprised?)

I stare at it every time I drive past, less impressed by the architecture than amazed by the name.  I guess if Hollywood makes a romantic movie about the Hindenburg, we can expect a new, dirigible-shaped resort to pop up somewhere, named "The Hindenburg."

Is there a "Hindenburg Resort" in the future?
This week, I'm grateful for my Western education.  I may not have enjoyed History in school, but at least I know what the Titanic disaster was -- although my education isn't enough to deduce why a Las Vegas company (Titanic Resorts,Inc.) would name and build their hotels to resemble a doomed vessel that took the lives of 1502 people.

IWSG: Choosing

For some time now, I've been unable to settle on a new project.  When I think one up, I'm so excited about the possibilities!  But as I ponder it for a few weeks, it loses that shiny-new-idea quality, and my inner editor says: "Not good enough. It won't get you an agent (editor, publisher, readers, etc.). Find a better one."

And I think up a new one, and toss it away, and another, toss it away, and another, ad infinitum.

How do you choose a new project?  Do you start writing even if you're not convinced it's good enough?
