Where's the Bridge?

I was watching a documentary about a girl's disappearance in San Fransisco, and they showed the most amazing clip of fog.  It looked like the Golden Gate Bridge was sitting on the clouds, so I found a pic to share with you.  Gorgeous, isn't it?  (... and kinda freaky.)

This week, here's what I've accomplished:
  • I've gotten three-quarters of an outline done!  I had the ending all figured out, but then I researched the definition of "high concept" and got a little freaked-out about my low concept story.  Uh-oh.  Should I change it somehow?  Can I change it?  Maybe I'm just a low concept gal...
  • I did a bunch of chores, and my apartment's really clean. Yay!
Well, that's about it.  Now that I've written it out, it looks pretty pitiful.

Wishing  everyone a wonderful week! :-D

This post is part of VikLit's blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things. To be part of this blog hop, all you have to do is follow the link and put your name on the Mr.Linky list, and then be sure to post every Friday about some small (or big) accomplishment for that week.  It can be about writing or family or school or general life.  This is the funnest and easiest blog hop ever!

That's a gorgeous picture! I don't think the Golden Gate Bridge is ever 100% visible though; it always seems to be shrouded in fog or cloud.

I don't think you should worry about your story being high concept or not. Just write it and see if you can find a pitch for it when you've got the story and characters clear in your head.

Great picture of the GGB! I visited San Francisco once and we never got to see it out of the fog. And I agree with Kate, just keep writing and get your story and characters flushed out then give it to a trusted beta reader or two for some feedback. (:

I live near a suspension bridge, and it can look like that especially in the autumn - it is amazing to walk across it because you can feel the mist, land and river disappear, and then you escape into completely clear, sunny air!

I have to get to work on my outline. I've been editing for clients and need to get back to it.

Don't stress the low concept.
Wild photo. Some heavy fog.

It is a wonderful picture, Lexa. Now you've got me wondering what High Concept is,hmmm. And cleaning an apartment is quite a task! :)

Congrats on the outline and chores :) Bad circumstances with the girl's disappearance, but that photo is amazing.

Stunning photo! Way to go on the outline! Remember to celebrate your small steps. :) And who knows, what you're thinking may be low concept may turn out differently once the drafting takes place. Here's to believing in the magic of our words!!

Sometimes we have to walk the bridge in perfect fog, trusting our blind feet.

Cleaning is always an accomplishment. Now I'm looking at my house... hmm, time to grab the vacuum.

Doesn't look pitiful to me! And that pic is gorgeous! I grew up in the Bay Area - spent many wonderful moments on the SF Bay - deep sea fishing....great memories and beautiful scenery to be sure!

That picture IS freaky... but oh so beautiful!

I have to look up this high concept business now, but I would still say don't worry about it. Write it your way first, it might just surprise you ;)
Clean house? Yay!!! that is always an accomplishment over here dealing with two toddlers lol

I'm still not certain of the correct definition of high-concept myself. I've read more than a few contradicting definitions.

Happy Weekend!

So right about the fog. No accomplishment is small, congrats. And thank you for checking out my post in the indie-kiss blogfest.

That's an awesome pic and congrats on the outline. Those can, sometimes, be a real pain!

I once lived in San Francisco and I've actually seen the Bridge blanketed in fog like in this picture. Wonderful.

You're making fantastic progress...:) The bridge looks eerie... wonder what's it like to actually stand on the bridge:)

Not pitiful at all! To me, those are both high stress and energy accomplishments you've succeeded at.

High concept... low concept... ? At least you have a concept that seems to be moving forward (three quarters of an outline...), and that's half the battle won! Take it a step at a time...

HURRAH to an outline! That's great! Beautiful pic too!

It takes me weeks to pull together an outline. I'm forever tweaking while I work on other things. I'm sure yours will come together.

That's a great picture, but fog freaks me out.

I love to walk across the bridge when it's shrouded in fog like that. Of course, I walk fast because it's so freakin' cold! Congrats on the outllning. Wish I could outline fiction. I'm a miserable failure at it. Maybe I should hire you. :-)

Good grief, not pitiful at all! Congrats on getting work done :)

This is a gorgeous photo- all that rolling fog packed in like cotton. Beautiful :)

You're doing way better than me. I'm trying to draft from an outline, busy on chapter 4 and about ready to rip the outline to shreds.

I lived in SF for years, and it did get clear once in a while, but of course lots of fog and wind is better!

I like clean when I don't have to do it.

I've seen San Fran like that. Just eerie how the fog hangs.

Yeah for you! Look at all that good work. :)

I have been to San Francisco a few times and have seen the bridge look a couple of different ways. It is so beautiful! Love seeing the fog on it from above. :)

I think I lost my comment...

I enjoyed this post! Yeah for you! Look at all you got done!

I have been to San Francisco a few times and have seen the bridge look beautiful, but different each time. Love the fog picture! :)

I love those kind of pictures. The beauty and power awes me.

I love how the fog rolls in during the evenings in San Francisco, and then it rolls out by late morning. Beautiful picture!

Gorgeous photo! I'd hate to be driving in it though.
I've never looked up high concept before. Now I'm worried...

Cindy said...

Great pictures!

Jocelyn Rish said...

That's a gorgeous picture, but I would be so scared if I had to drive through it. Congrats on the progress on your outline. And I wouldn't stress too much about low vs. high concept - you have to write the story that you feel passionate about. If you try to force a high concept when it's not the story you want to tell, then it won't feel natural to the readers.

DL Hammons said...

A low concept gal??? I think not! :)

M Pax said...

That is an amazing picture. What a sight that'd be to see in person.

I think any concept is great. I'm glad you're making progress. Woot on cleaning. I need to to that soon.

Shannon Lawrence said...

I love that picture! Sometimes the fog around here gets just right, pooled up against the mountains, and it looks like there's a sea between me and the mountains. That's my favorite fog. Congratulations on your accomplishments! I refuse to look up high concept. There are so many rules out there that it's so easy to get insecure about our writing.

Managing to clean the abode and sketch out most of a plot is so not pitiful :) Love the photo!

Natalie Aguirre said...

Love the picture. Awesome that you got an outline done. For some reason, I can't plot out an entire story.

Mina Lobo said...

A. Dig the pic and adore San Fran.

B. I've heard of "high concept" but dunno what it means and I'm too lazy to do my own research. Feel like blogging about this for me??? ;-)

Those are BOTH big accomplishments. Good job!
